even though my rear end has the one wheel peel i do not have enought to do he rear end rebuild right now with the rebuild dif and new carbon clutches sooo
ive had some 90-145 i think it is royal pruple fluid and since ive bought the car ive noticed a little rear end fluid on ground and leaking worse now days
i can see it was a dif cover on it so some1 changed it and didnt put the midifer in im sure and killed the clutches and have the one wheel peel idoits and obviosuly didnt clean the cover so make a clean surface and now its leaking pretty bad
so im going to try and perform my first rear end fluid change so it dosent leak nomore i dnt wanna do farther damage im sure its about at leastttt one quart short i nthere since been leaking for a little while now
gonna chnag it with royal pruple snce its got the frisction moditfier already built in with it and gonna use the rtv or whatever sealer wih a gasket if the advance auto has it
so what you guys thinking im just tired of seeing the fluid on the ground and im sure its probably close to nothing in there and dont want it to do farther damage

Shouldnt need a gasket...just the rtv.....the gaskets are paper like and dont last. just make sure there is a smooth surface when you put on the rtv and should be fine after that.

RTV only for the rear diff cover. You need 75w-140 fluid, nothing more nothing less than that.
Did you price and see how much the dealer would change the fluid for?

Some clarification...
If you use a non-synthetic fluid you should add friction modifier. Most synthetic fluids don't need friction modifier.
Gasket - The factory used RTV for the gasket. Make sure both surfaces are clean and dry. Apply the RTV per the instructions. Most say let the RTV "skin over" before assembling.

Easy to change just don't use the paper gasket they leak, finally took the cover off again and used the RTV gasket maker and no leaks now.I used the synthetic fluid but I still added friction modifier by the way.I put in Mobil 1 and also use this brand for motor oil.

FWIW, for those who don't want to mess around with RTV, CarQuest sells Victor Reinz gaskets, which are highly respected. I have one on Phoebe and it doesn't leak.

Make sure you can remove the fill plug before removing the rear cover!
Good luck, it's pretty easy to swap out the fluid.
The torque spec for the differential bolts is 33 ft/lbs.

well was about to perform this i noticed doin so would do nothign bec itsot coming from the cover seal its coming from where the divetrain and the chasis connect so im guessing a seal bearing or whatever

yet ur right, right in between where the drivetrain n chasis conects
so only thing to do and have ti done right would be a complete rear end rebuild in order already got the fluid and the ford racing 4.10 been wanting ot get put in anyways and have the one wheel peel since owned car 18 months ago but never noticed it
also my axles dont look very good but they will know better than me if i need new axles or not thats there call
but there is 3 reason righ there to get a rear done right there:
wanting these 4.10 not sitting my basement installed in car :D
pinion seal leaking and getting worse n worse sure there a quart low in there by now
finally the one wheel peel
i also noticed that the cover i ahve on ther is a ford racing cover with a fill plug on the top

And its a good thing you did because there either is no F.M. added or VERY little in Mobil1. Mine lasted four weeks and started to chatter on tight turns. Added F.M. and about five miles later, all noises gone.
O.P. Get a pinion seal and at minimum a regular 8.8 clutch kit. You are going to waste that much money on fluid and not fix the problem? Or if your broke, then just add some no name fluid for now to top it off.

Paper gaskets are for coolant and water.
Cork and rubber gaskets are for oils.
RTV is a rubberized material and is recommended for the Differential.

Be careful which RTV you use. Some formulations can be degraded by additives in gear oil. Permatex makes a product specifically for differentials (http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/permatex_gear_oil_rtv_gasket_m aker.htm).
