Since there seems to be a discrepancy as to what kind of mileage can be achieved with a MM, I'd like to know what speed to travel to get the most out of one. Headed to Columbus this weekend and would like to try to see the better side of the MM mileage, what have you guys found works best?

The speed to drive to get the most out of the MM is hammer down

In all seriousness, it can depend in your tune and mods, but for me 74-78 has yielded the best results

Why not take the 96 impala and get there faster and get 26-28 mpg ??
Did you see my write up on my hot rods ?

If you want to get the most MPG out of your MM when traveling, drive the speed limit. There is also a lot of other factors, such as tire psi, vehicle weight (any added weight will decrease gas mileage), stop and go traffic, etc etc.

^ True. I do a lot of driving on 55 mph roads and will put the cruise on 60. With some around town driving thrown in I usually get 22mpg - 24mpg. My Marauder is completely stock.

68 to 70 is the sweet spot on my car. Will get 22 - 23 mpg cruising at that speed (that's with the Eaton and 4.10s).

If you bought a marauder and are worried about gas mileage then maybe it's time for you to trade it in.

Hell I can drive my marauder and get 6-8 MPG!

BUT during those 6-8 MPG's there is a :D grin on my face that you couldn't take off with a hammer & chisel!

I guess 500RWHP will do that to you! :drive: :burn:

Oddly enough with my last mods I took a trip to Miami and drove the speed limit.
Roughly 300 mile round trip
My Aeroforce showed an average of 26.9 MPG!
Gotta love that Mo's tune!

We'll see what I can get out of her tomorrow evening. I almost think it would be better with 4.10's so that it would be more into the torque band.

Cruise at 65, you'll be fine, say mid 20's. Key is cruising at a steady state. Doesn't take much to keep her going - it's the getting up to speed which eats fuel.

No debate. No discrepancy. MSRP window sticker says "17 MPG City and 23 MPG Highway" .... "Your mileage may vary". It always does. Some higher. Some lower.

My top was 24.5 MPG on a long distance trip to Louisville (1,200 miles round trip) at 75-80 MPH the whole way. Probably could have hit 26-27 MPG by backing off to 65 or so. Naaaaah !!! Works out to be about $1.32 per 100 miles.

Around town with the tune, I get closer to 15-16 MPG with a "spirited" right foot. The right foot has far more direct impact on MPG than anything else.

You can feather the gas and take your time to get up to speed, then use cruise control set for the speed limit, brake gradually and bring it back down slowly. Doesn't sound like much fun to me. I am having far more fun than a penny a mile. :D ..... and I don't replace rear tires as soon as DOOM either. ;)

"Normal driving" I still get over 20MPG.

Can't complain about! Especially with the mods I have!

1 tank with approximately 1/3 hwy, 1/3 rural & 1/3 city with plenty of WOT runs = 23mpg

I average 8 normal driving. With 3.55's I could hit 23.5, switching over to 4.30's and 255/55's I can now achieve 19.8. This is at an average of 70-75 MPH.

Under drives can save a bit on gas too - 12 to 15 hp is like 1 mpg right?

Not a great Idea to underdrive an Eaton however.

65mph: 0mpg since Maryland drivers will sideswipe you into a ditch if you're doing 65 on the interstate.

85mph: 19mpg

Driving the Interstate highways (44 & 35) on my Texas trips, 7.5 hrs, Springfield to Fort Worth, turnpikes, 75 mph speed limit. (25.5 mpg@75 mph) 94 & 93 octane. Cruise Control on.

Fort Worth to New Braunfels Tx. Interstate highway, 3hrs. 10 min. (25.2 mpg@70 mph) 93 octane. I always plan to hit Austin during an off peak traffic time, most times can cruise 65 mph all the way through. Cruise Control on.

Around town, 17.0 to 18.2 , 94 octane, depending on my right foot...:D.. Usually 17.5 mpg. Haven't had mileage below 17.0 mpg. yet. Car is completely stock.

Yeah, I've gotten like 16.5 around town a couple of times, but mostly it's between 17.0 and 18.5, which really is good considering it's a V-8.

Around town I get about 16.5...on my trip to ATL last weekend, I got 21.2...cruised at 70mph with A/C on. I'm happy with that...

Besides, gas prices will eventually be $5+ within the next 5 years, so now is the time to drive a 'gas guzzler'...premium was <$2 gal back in 2005...

hehe, I like that part too, especially when one can lay waste to others trying to follow. You'll get both better mileage and about another 50HP from the SW headers! :burnout:

Unfortunately I've reached the slippery slope of modding.

If I get headers then I'll need a tune and if I am going to pay for a tune then I might as well get a smaller pulley while I'm at it but then I'll need to upgrade the MAF sensor and upgrade the fuel pump. Mmmmm Chick-Fil-A banana pudding milkshake.....

There is no safety in doing the same speed as everyone around you: You're just begging to be subjected to someone else's inattention or F-up.

I experience the best mileage at the point directly after hard acceleration, when I take my foot off the gas.

my last road trip back to phoenix, i got 22.1 mpg with cruise set at 81 on I-40 (OKC to Holbrook, AZ). When the car was stock last year, same stretch of road, i got 24.5 mpg.
now coming back, i get about .6 mpg better because it's mostly down hill from the continental divide (7275 ft) in western New Mexico
