The other night I was on my way home from work and the merc just outright died electrically. I was slowly cruising behind someone who was turning off and I went to punch it after they turned. Car spooled up, watched the tach climb, feelt like its getting ready to shift, then the car is just dead. Lights in the gauge cluster started flickering as I was pulling off into a parking lot (rolling from the forward momentum I had). I tried to turn it over once, nothing, pop the hood get out, look at the battery terminals, belt, etc... don't see anything wrong or out of place so I try cranking it again and she fires right up no issues.
I made it home the last couple miles with no other issues and drove it another 180 miles to and from work with no issues. Tried recreating it a couple times with no luck.
My alternator is on it's way out but I'm waiting for my big 3 kit to arrive so I can go from 4awg to 0awg and install my 200 amp unit.
Just wondering if this was possibly related to the alternator or if I may have other issues. Just the way it shut down and came right back on makes me think I have something shorting out to ground. Did a quick inspection last night, didn't see anything but I would like to know of the locations where the harness chafing has occured so I can root around some more and give myself a piece of mind.
Buddy of mine suggested battery possibly but I would think if the cells shorted on a hard launch they would stay shorted or I could easily reproduce it.
