Just replaced the >8 year old battery in my 04 MM (built 10/3/03). I hope the replacement can last 70% as long but I have my doubts!

Replaced mine last month, 9 years 6 months. Of course I replaced it with:

I know Johnson Controls makes Motorcraft, along with some other well known branded batteries.....but I'll stick with the Motorcraft. Although I did upgrade to the BXT-65-750 from the -650

I replaced my 9-1/2 year old battery last fall with a Motorcraft.
One thing that bugs me is when you see a nice original looking car at a car show and they have an ugly green Interstate or Walmart battery under the hood. Really? You can't buy an OEM looking battery?

Lost mine 3 weeks ago (it was a Duralast Gold Top that was in the car when I bought her).... I had just enough warning...... She would not crank, let it rest, tried her again, and she just barely rolled over..... Went directly to the store....... Replaced it with a Optima Red Top. So far so good.

I have the same build month as OP , I am on my third battery. The !st one lasted past the 36/36
Last two times, I went cheap, ugly(never though ugly, LOUD Yellow maybe)aftermarket.
The warranty was a year longer than OEM and the price was much less, like 30%

Hi guys,
I am always looking for forum threads about batteries and found this one. First, let me say if these cars are not driven much, there must not be much parasitic draw on them . I know now days with modern cars, you pretty much have to keep a maintainer charger on them if you don't drive the car weekly or the batteries will be drained and cut their lifespan. For an original battery to go 9-10 years, that is great.
If you do let your car sit for long periods of time and find the battery weak, you should charge it with a charger, rather than look to the alternator to recharge unless you are planning a very long (couple hours) drive. An alternator just won't fully charge a deeply discharged battery in 20 minutes.
Like Ozark marauder said, with today's technology, you can sometimes upgrade your cca or ca and retain the same size battery so remember to check when you do replace.
Thanks,
Bill Howell

One thing to keep in mind is that these cars have a "smart" voltage regulator that is computer controlled. that means that they drop their operating voltage to a "maintenance" charge was the battery is fully recharged so any battery will last longer in them than they will in a car that maintains that voltage at ~14.2 regardless of SOC.
It doesn't hurt that the factory batteries are high quality units unlike some other automakers that spec out just enough life to get them out the door.

My original battery finally died today. Almost 11 years. Production date of my 03 Marauder is 8/8/02. Don't know the date the battery was made. Anybody have one last that long?

I bought my '03 Marauder (300A) new back in April 2003. I haven't had time to drive it much in the past couple years and the battery finally croaked a couple months ago. The original battery lasted a full ten years and I (of course) replaced it with a new Motorcraft 850CCA battery. The parts guy told me that it's not unusual to get 10-12 years out of a Motorcraft battery.
I've been driving for 40+ years and I've never had a battery last nearly as long as this one did. :)

Just replaced the original battery in my 2003 TBird.
Ten years, 21,000 miles, no battery tender.
She was still cranking OK, but I remember that my battery went dead in my wife's 2004 Lincoln LS with no warning, so I figured enough's enough.

Still on my original for my 04. I have finally used a battery tender on it this winter. Its also been discharged time and time again, at least once a year to where the car clicks, I charge it with a slow charge, to my surprise it maintains again.

wow, 10 years is insane. the longest i had a battery last was roughly 5 years with a DieHard Gold. The el cheapo duralast's would only last about 3 years... that Phoenix heat would kill batteries.
My 'rauder has a hideous green interstate (was in there when i bought the car), I'm thinking it won't last much longer... the below freezing temps in the winter and sustained +100 temps in the summer don't sound very battery friendly either.
Kirk, When they go there is no warning at all.
Ya, I'm waiting and watching carefully. Can't be long before it goes.
My original battery just died too. I hadn't been a daily driver of the Marauder in a while, though it held up great until the end.

Battery question... What about marine batteries??? Good, bad, ugly.
When I bought my '79 Mark V she has a marine battery in it. Don't know how long it was in it before I got her, but it last about 5 years with no problem. Started the BB every time until I would get her out of the garage for a short trip and stopped at a gas station to fill up first, BB's are ALWAYS thirsty, and she would start.

Well mine went. Autocraft from advance auto 6year old but I guess driving it once a week was not helping and very hot summers and low 20s winter was bad also. Replacing with motorcraft asap
