Got myself one of those nifty $24 Dampener/Crank bolts. Called ARP to find out the torque amount as it's different than stock.

They said to use 90ft pounds, not tighten X amount then another 90 degrees. And ARP also said to use blue thread locker, apparently this isn't listed anywhere.

Anyone got a hardened crank bolt that used different amount of torque to tighten?

Torgue it how ARP tells you.

I guess the important thing is don't torque it like a factory bolt. (34 + 90) Wanted to make sure as I didn't get it "in writing"

Thanks Chris.

Correct.... they know their bolts. The thread locker is essential.

Where did you find the bolt for $24?

Yeah the factory bolt is torque to yield I believe. Thats usually how TTY bolts are, so much torque then an additional amount of degrees.

Also put some silicone around the inside of the washer and I do the bolt head too so you don't get any oil seapage.

Bumping an old thread.

Can anyone confirm the ARP p/n number "156-2501" is the correct one for our cars?

I always reuse the stock bolt and use an impact gun to tighten them.
20+ engines done, never a problem.

Use silicone sealer on the key slot.

Mine was already reused once when the UD pulleys went on.

Cheaper on Amazon than what AF had including the shipping. Good link though, might snatch up some other stuff on there.

I can think of one bolt on my Black car Ive re-used at least 8 times.

New OEM crank bolts are $4.50 if you are worried. Why pay $40 for an ARP ?

I used the same bolt when installing my steeda underdrive crank pulley and then again reinstalling my stock pulley on my last MM.

I made sure the engine was all the way cool and ran the pulley under hot water (probably not nessasary). I used the installer tool to get it most the way on then zipped it up with the impact. I could see the pulley seat when I impacted the original bolt.

Because technically you're not supposed to re use the oem bolt, however the ARP ones are reusable. If you ever have to remove the bolt ever again, it saves from the hassel of buying a new bolt each time, unless your zack, and have the special touch.

This is why I was going to get the ARP, will use it next weekend when I have my timing tensioners replaced and carry it over to the new motor.
