Well when you drain the oil and change the filter how much oil is left in the engine? Just wondering

I would say damn little.
Buy 6, throw 5 1/2 quarts in it, start it and let it run for a minute or so.
Shut it off, smoke a cigarette and/or drink a beer then check it again.
You'll be good.
Mike.

I believe the manual says 6.5 with a filter change.

You could put 7 quarts even cause our crankshaft counter weights are above the top edge of the oil pans ,I remember seeing a video on our engine and our pan actually could hold 10 quarts of oil not that I would do that,I run with 7 quarts, Mobil 1 myself.

For me 6 quarts is enough. Once I had to put in 7 to get it to read full. Strange.

6.5 quarts for me. Puts the oil level right at the top of the range on the dipstick.
Don't mean to hyjack but how much capacity does installing a remount mount oil filter add?

I like the way you think! Cheers Mike!
Seriously though, I'm curious to know why there is a 1/2 quart discrepancy between some members here!

Some read the owners manual..... some don't.

I don't have the printed Owner's Manual on hand, but the *.PDF of the '04 Owner's Manual shows the exact refill capacity as the photo you posted ctrlraven. :)
Perhaps the discrepancy "we're" seeing w/ engine oil capacities after draining the and changing the filter is due to the fact that the car is not on level ground... just a thought.

I let my car sit for 20-30 mins while leaning to the side where the drain plug is to get more out but still get about 6 quarts out.

I also tilt the car slightly, but I use the one more beer method.
Due to a friend getting 3rd degree burns on his wedding ring finger from the starter terminal, I do not wear a watch or jewelry when working on the car.
A friend was bragging he changes the oil on his Chevy is less than 20 minutes. I always take over an hour. I let the last of the oil drip out. The dirtiest sludge is in the last of the oil to drip.

You'll get more oil if you drain it when warm.

And you'll get it out sooner, and any suspended particles which might have settled (sludge?) will be re-suspended so the first drop is no less contaminated than the last.
