I have been following this site since its inception to help me decide whether to purchase a new MM. After seeing how the MM has fared over time, surveying the new car market and after noting that my 1987 Grand National was on the high side of 225k miles, in early December 2003 I decided to factory-order a MM. The 4 rebates were nice and helped sway me to order the factory moonroof as well the other available options.

Last week, the general sales manager (my sales person) told me that my car was to be delivered today, so I paid a visit this afternoon. Sure enough, it had arrived. Although the sales manager had the day off, a salesman vaguely waved me in the direction of the service department lot. There I saw the car stripped of its shipping plastic and gleaming in the midday sunshine after just having a refreshing bath. There was a guy working on cleaning up the car so I did not do a detailed inspection. However, I did note the odometer reading of 3 miles. The paint quality is excellent and the tinted factory moonroof is an elegant touch. It may take a day or two to prepare the car and add the factory spoiler (freebie installation as part of the deal) which was pre-ordered. Although I sold the Grand National, that bit of sadness is replaced by the anticipation of driving the MM and seeing it resting beside the black 96 Impala SS in the garage.

I look forward to a MM meet in the greater LA area. Thanks for letting me know the details when the time arrives.

My expectations got ahead of reality and there has been a delay in delivery. The spoiler was not well painted, so the dealer has sent it out for a re-paint before putting it on the car. The dealer was going to just order a new one, but it seemed to me that the paint quality on the new one could be just as bad or worse than the present one. I also seemed to remember hearing somewhere that some thought that the paint on the spoiler looked a bit more brown than the paint on a black MM. So, I thought that matching paint on the spoiler would be the way to go. I must say though that they could pack the spoiler better in the shipping box. Hopefully the car will be ready by the start of next week.

Welcome Polar!

Since you've been arouns a while, you've heard that the smile is directly connected to the right foot.

But theory is different than practice!

I will post pictures of the moonroof.[/QUOTE]
I'm very interested in pics of the moonroof. I'm getting ready to put an aftermarket moonroof in my (brand new) 2003, and I'd like to see what the overhead console, if any, looks like in a factory moonroof car. Anybody else know? Is there a shorter version of the factory console that I could get that would allow me to keep my overhead map lights and the compass?

All of the '04s come with a shorter overhead console.

Which rebates and in what amounts were you able to obtain?

Thanks,
