The MM has been undriven for @ 2 weeks so I took it out for a romp last weekend, After a few miles of spirited driving(less than 10 miles) my CEL lit up. GRRRR! Went to a FLAPS and had them check it out. They said it showed up as a slow leak in the evap tube. They cleared the code and it has not returned. WTF>?????? glitch perhaps?

If it was P0442 (Evap Leak - small) that can be the gas cap. Take it off and clean it and the filler tube flange.

Dan,

Didn't think of this when you told me about the CEL this morning.

Did you possibly get your gas bib caught under the cap when you threw fuel in it last?

Thx Mike! But I checked that and the cap was tight. Took it out again tonight and no repeat CEL. Go figure!

my car has done that since i purchased it 2 years ago and i even took it to ford dealership and they said there was a small pin hole in the hose or something like that and its fixed and well it wasent bec 3 months later popped back up

p0442 and i will clear it and will stay off for a long time like couple weeks to a month and then will pop back up.

its not a big deal they told me juts clear it when it pops back up i do so with my sct tune

it dosent seem to affect anytihng when is on car seems to be just fine i just clear it everytime it pops up but is agernavting ever ford couldnt fix it.

i tryed messign with cap taking it off cleaning it and i even changed my cap to one of the stant locking caps just for safety reasons

usually takes a hundred miles or so for an evap code to come back when theres a problem. theres two valves in the fuel tank system. one in between the engine and tank and one after the tank to a filter and fresh air. it closes the back valve and opens the front one sucking all the fumes out of the tank and drawing it into a vacuum. the it closes the front valve so the vacuum is contained. theres a pressure sensor in the tank and if its perfectly sealed the pressure stays the same. if it has a hole it loses the vacuum and throws a code.

it only does it every couple hundred miles or so. it may or may not come back on sometimes the valves stick from sitting.

I've had that P0442 code on my 04, changed the cap, (found out the original owner also changed it before he pased on, he went to the FORD dealer). The code has come back twice since, seems to be after a spirited trip on the highway, but not always.

Took it out this past weekend for a 200 mile trip. No CEL, so it just might have been a quirk! Thanks for the replies
