I went to the dealer to have a bad alternator replaced. He told me that since MM's are new and limited edition cars there haven't been that many replacement parts made. He told me that the wait for a new alternator could be a day or two, or up to a couple of weeks.

ANY decent Ford dealer can get a criticle part (I'd say an alternator qualifies) overnighted from one of their depots. Don't know which one services the Northeast...but he is talking nothing but :bs:

Check with TheDealer (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/member.php?u=1210) , I bet he can get you one.

Got the same story about rarity when my starter died more than a year ago. This was on a Thursday. Starter was ordered and the car was ready Monday if I remember.

Maybe they're just trying to "lower expectations" so you'll be pleasantly surprised...

Why do these people give us good dealers a bad name. First off the alt. is the same as any Grand Marquis or Crown Vic, it's not special for a Marauder. It fits 03/04. Alts. are Motorcraft Parts and are not stocked in Parts Depots, they come from Motorcraft Warehouse Dist. We have two in our area. I checked and they both have them in stock. Each one delivers to me, three times a day, so I would be a few hours at the most to get one. If they didn't have it, each dist. has warehouses in Harrisburg Pa and Delaware. I could have one overnight from them. I don't know where you're from but something dosen't sound right. Let me know where you're located and I post a locate for everyone that has one in your area!!!! Now I know why I ware BOOTS!!!! Tell these people my moto!!!! "DYJ" [do your job]. If these people put as much effort into their job as they do making excuses they could be good at their job!!!! They wouldn't work for me for 5 minutes. The part number is 3W1Z-10346-AARM or Motorcraft Number GL-526-RM. RAY

Born and raised in Philly for 52 years. You can't get me away from cheesesteaks, scrapple, soft pretzels. I've been to Atlanta on business and Fla. a couple times. I am a huge Nascar fan. Been going to Dover and Pocono for 35 years. Used to go to Langhorne with my father in the early 60's until it closed. Used to drive a Midget. I love to help fellow car enthusiast. My sister lives in Evans Ga. on the golf course where they play the Masters. She rents her house out to the CEO of Monsanto every year for the Masters. She goes to her summer home in Cape Cod for two weeks. I love Philly but these winters are starting to get to me. I'm here to help you guys. You can PM me or email me @ r.jermyn@northeastlincoln.com or call me at 1-800-216-6411. I'll be glad to help. RAY

OK, we just got an 04 Marauder in yesterday. I checked the build sheet for the part number of the alt. It says 3W3Z-10346-AA. Ford doesn't have any BUT it says this will be the replacement for part number 3W1Z-10346-AARM which is the part number I gave you yesterday!!!!! They are available. RAY

Ray,
Very glad that you're in our corner.
You must have attended a different "school" than many of the neighborhood Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealerships I've contacted over the years.
Also, seems like TAF knows who to contact no matter what issue is at hand.
A big THANK YOU to you both !

Yeah, has the alternator been the same on the panther line-up for a few years now? I've seen that same part on some other Ford cars too...it's a fairly unbiqutious piece.

The difference is I care. Most parts guys aren't into cars. They come in at 8am and can't wait for 5pm. I'm into cars for 35 years. Raced midgets in the seventies. Drag raced, own a 70 Mach1 408c and a 67 Mercury Cyclone 460. I bleed cars and Ford blue. Most guys look up the part number, check availability and stop. NOT AVAILABLE!!!! We have tools that most guys don't use. I used a tool called HVBOM. It gives you a list of every part number the assembly plant put on that car. I ran the vin for the 04 MM we have in stock and came up with a part number that wasn't available, but I didn't stop there like most would. I used another tool we have called DOESII. I went to the merchandisers remarks section. Typed in that part number, the first screen said nothing, I didn't stop there, I hit f7 and it told you that this replaced engineering number 3w1u-10300-ab. I cross referenced that enginerring number and found part number 3W1Z-10346-AARM, which was the number the parts catolog listed all along for all Grand Marquis!!! :banana2:

Boy, FORDPARTS.COM doesn't do this for their customers!!!!!

Walk into any dealer. Tell them you have a 67 Mercury Cyclone, and you want a BRAND NEW wiper motor and a lower grille moulding. What do you think their answer would be??? Would they even look them up???? Well I spent about 5 minutes to look up the part number, run a locate on the computer[which take about 30 seconds], called the dealers listed and got the parts in a few days. I found brand new interior door trim panels for my 70 Mach1. You wouldn't believe the amount of parts that are still out there. Just got 2 new front fenter ext. mouldings for the Cyclone. 6 dealers in the country had them. They only fit a 67 Cyclone. I sell and help locate parts for old cars all the time. Just "DYJ"[do your job]!!!! RAY

The only different alternator for these cars is for the Police package. I work at Magarity Ford in Philly and as with any part that keeps a car from running there is the option to emergency order the part from Ford, and Ford will pay the freight too. I will admit there is a lot of ignorance on this car at Ford. I am trying to sort through a lumbar issue. I have to keep reminding them it's not a Grand Marquis as the vin says but a Marauder. I guess that is why some dealers refer to it as the Marauder Package.

TheDealer
02-18-2004, 12:50 PM
On an 04 in HVBOM the vin now comes back as a Marauder. I think they made a change for 04. The vin number is now different than a Grand Marquis also.

Hey Ray,

just got back from AC. They are still waiting for the part. He swears up and down that it is a different part. He said he has five that fit the GM and he would love to put one of those in my car and get the car out of his shop (and me off his case) but he says it is definitly a different part for the MM. His parts manager went to some kind of a district meeting with Ford Thursday night and they told him it is on back order and should be here by Tuesday. At least he finally gave me a loaner car (Sable). Not quite a MM, but at least I have a car to get around with in the meantime.
