I took the MM out for a quick ride tonight, I noticed the red light thats on the volt meter in the center console was coming on when the volt went under 12 volts by a hair. Car was in drive, when I put my foot on the brake it would come on. Could this be the battery or alternator or something else.

Who knew there was a red light on the gauge?

To my knowledge there is no red light in the voltmeter.

Can you post a picture?

I think he meant the red light in the instrument panel that will illuminate if charging system failing/fails....it looks like a battery symbol.

Upper left hand corner next to the speedo.

Might be your alternator going bad.

Check battery alternator & voltage regulator.

From the OP "I noticed the red light thats on the volt meter in the center console"

Big difference between the instrument cluster and center gauge pod.

Well whatever light it is...
looks like your alternator is taking a nap. You probably will have a dead battery soon.

When you put your foot on the brake, the brake lights go on, and their pulling power from the battery not the alternator like all the electricals should. Try turning on some other things (headlights/heater fan) at the same time, and see if the meter drops even more. If it does, go after the alternator.
If it doesn't; then you've got a case for FBM (Jim). ;)

Well what should I do about getting a new alternator should I get it rebuilt or new.

If you have underdrive pulley/s, this can happen with all systems operating normally.

I'm running UD's, and there have been times when the A/C is running, headlamps, fogs, while at a stop with my foot on the brake, and my volt meter was around 11.5v. Never had a battery light appear on the dash.

May be time for the OP to swing by a FLAPS and have them perform a load test on his ride.

Mike.

I'm not running UD's and when the alternator was failing [less than 12v shown on the stock gauge] w/ a full load I [I]too never saw a battery light on the dash. For the record, I have yet to perform the "Big 3" wiring upgrade because the Marauder is still under warranty.

Take it off, go get it tested at the auto parts store (should be free); and rule out the alternator. Good or bad. At least you can go from there.

If bad; just buy remanufactured. If you feel odd about that, spend the extra on the new one. It's really your choice on that.

NOTE: get them to test the new/reman. one BEFORE you leave the store with it. Had this happen. Get home / put in the new one / faulty!
