WALMART has started selling the MOBIL 1 Racing Oil in 0W-20 (for Ford 5W-20) requirements, for example oil changes for our Marauders. Unfortunately, I didn't see any 5 qt jugs, so I had to buy 6 quart bottles for the oil change today. Have fun folks.:cool4:

Jabird/Clancy,
I would be very interested in seeing some used oil analysis results on this products after 5000 miles. I'll offer a UOA kit at my cost if you'll send the sample in and share the results with us.

jfclancy,
I use Mobil 1 in the 0W-20 viscosity as well.
Even though the owner's manual indicates (6) quarts are required when the oil and filter are serviced, I find my MM requires almost (7) quarts.
Same for yours ?

Don, Sure send me a kit.
With the current trend, it will be a few month til I get to 15000, miles. Just turned 10,000 since I bought my MM last Apr.

Six quarts seems to fill mine up, according to the dip stick, anyway.

A point to consider:
"Please note Mobil 1R is not API rated as Mobil 1R contains high levels of anti-wear additization and an optimized additive package for racing engines, above that permitted by current API specifications."
The "above that permitted" refers to a very high level of phosphorus, which is detrimental to your cats...also, using a motor oil which is not API certified is highly detrimental to your warranty.

Why are you using racing oil? Mobil 1 sells a 0w-20 synthetic that meets the Ford specifications. Auto Zone and Advance Auto carry it.

Extra Phosphorous is only harmful to the cats if the car is burning oil as fast as it is burning gas. In a mechanically sound engine the amount of excess Phosphorous exiting through the exhaust is negligible. My guess is the P level is only a few PPM over the API limit. The additive is too expensive to completely overload the stuff nor does it make sense to do so. Too much of an additive can be as detrimental as too little. Mobil is way too smart to put a product on the market that could hurt the cats.
On the warranty issue, as long as the oil carries an API rating, like SL for eaxample, the warranty cannot be questioned by use of such an oil.
Jabird has taken me up on the oil analysis offer. Once we have it analyzed we'll see how much extra phosphorous it has in it. If my assumptions are correct, the levels of extra additives will be minimal and probably on par with other top of the line synthetics.

Check out George Morrison's post on BITOG
VOA of M1R (http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f =1;t=005271)
It looks like M1R is essentially regular M1 with a LOT more ZDDP...and although I understand your statement that "Mobil is way too smart to put a product on the market that could hurt the cats.", they may be a$$uming that it would be used primarily in racing applications (it IS called Mobil 1 Racing after all...) or in older "muscle cars" without cats...the stuff is also just under $7 a quart...and is probably massive overkill for a street engine, especially with stock internals...

Just got it changed today RF. Thought of you as the dirty oil was coming out ;)
I LOVE the Royal Purple...and as long as I keep posting 295 RWHP and 320 RWTQ on an N/A Marauder...Royal Purple it will be.

Yeah, yeah, but it's not racing oil, is it. I'd bet you would see 300 RWHP if it was...

What the he$$!
I'm taking my MM in in the next week or so for her first warranty service including oil change. I have asked for advice on several threads, the latest of which I was advised to use the Ford/Mercury recommended stuff. So whas up! :(

This is true, but normally a bit more $$$ than say a Wal-Mart----so..I'm glad to see WAlly World step up and start shelving this stuff---competition--- helps against the high cost of this stuff alittle......
Just hope I don't have to order it from Omaha --cause it ain't down here yet!!

Thanks for the note RF.....I did got to the link and I must say I was surprised...That is one loaded oil...I would not have been surprised at P and Zn levels at 1200, and Moly levels at 300, but nearly 2000 on P and Zn is quite a surprise. You might be right that it may be overkill for normal street engines but I still don't think it will hurt anything. It will be intersting to see what the UOAs say over time.

No problem here, kurly, we're just playing with ourselves. If it was anything necessary, or, alarming, you would have known this by now.
Feel free to go get your oil change as you have planned, and get the company 5W20 brand too, it's fine. Change it every 3K miles after that, and you'll be admired as a responsible owner by LM, as they reflect on the undesireables. Just make sure your dealer tracks your mileage and visits.
We're just showing each other our dipsticks here, that's all...

I usually don't post in oil threads, but I do however reading them.:)
I still use the 'what it calls for oil', but since I have decided to do my own oil changes, I figured I would continue to pay attention.
My only two questions at this point are as follows:
Lame question= This Mobil 1R that you all speak of, is it full or semi synthetic?
Better question= No one speaks of filters too often. Are we sticking with the very expensive stock Motorcraft filter?

I still don't get the numbers. I went to mobil's website and their FAQ didn't have anything. ::sigh::

"very expensive"???? I buy the Motorcraft FL820S at Wally World for $2.97...the only less espensive ones I know of are Wally's house brand (Super Tech) for $1.97...then there's that orange four-letter "F"-word filter...

I don't know what it means or why, exactly, but when I was running the Mobil 1 oil filters I heard more noise from the top of my engine at start up (before the oil got flowing well) than I do with the Motorcraft filter. I know, I know, I'm probably just crazy, but it seems like it really did make a difference. *shrug* So it's the plain white Motorcraft filters for me from now on.
I now disengage from this "oily" thread...
