Just curious if anyone has changed out their slush box for a manual tranny? If so, can they share any info about it. Thanks.
Yes, it has been done successfully, see the link

Lots of work to put a Tremec in. Have you tried a shift kit? The 4R70 and 75 are amazing with a little bit of tweaking, they shift faster and firmer than you can imagine.

Yup, J-mod will wake up the tranny.

Does the shift kit just wake up the 3 speed w/t OD or can I get another gear in? A s you can tell I have very limited knowlege about trannys.. and who can I ask about instalation?

The 4-gear transmission will stay a 4 gear transmission. However all shifts will be faster and very firm.
Any tranny shop can install the shift kit but if you're close to any of the MM.net vendors that can do it I would highly recommend them first. If not, find out which local transmission shop fixed all the local cop car transmissions and see if they could do it.
But before even doing that, have you had the car tuned? Most tuners can wake the transmission up by firming up the shifts and changing the converter lookup to only 4th gear. Try MartyO on the site here if you don't have a tuner yet.

Agreed.
If you haven't done any mods yet, I recommend:
Tune
4.10 gears
J-Mod
Do those, and you'll swear you've got a different car.

What a lot of people who want a manual transmission are looking for is control of downshifts and gear selection.
If all you want is a firmer faster upshift - the J-mod is the way to go!

Thanks, I have been in touch with Moe's about a tune. Everybody seems to be greatly impressed with the 4.10 gears. Are they really that good?

Yup.
The cars were originally designed for 4.10s from the factory, but concerns (which have since proved to be largely unfounded) about fuel mileage forced the switch to 3.55s.
The lower gears will improve low end responsiveness, and you'll see minimal impact on your mileage, especially at highway speeds. Most of us have seen a 0 to 2.0 mpg decrease at 65 -75 mph.
IMO, a tune and 4.10s are the two best initial mods you can do for your car. Beyond that, start saving for a S/C if you want to get more oomph.

I get 23 mpg on the highway at 80mph with my 4.10's and the a/c cranked.

Exactly! ^^^^^
The 4.10s improve performance with little, if any, downside to mileage. To me, they're a no-brainer, i.e. any one considering, just do it! ;)

I just had my transmission rebuilt and I learned a lot
about what the AOD/4R7XW transmission can do.
The Marauder version comes with the lower ratio/close ratio planetary gearset in it already.
All you need is a freshen up of clutches, and a heavier OD Band installed.
A hardened input and output shaft won't hurt either.
Once these transmissions are rebuilt for performance, they can handle up to 1000HP.
Quick Shifting is not a problem. J-mod is only the beginning.
A knowledgeable transmission technician can do a lot more than just the J-mod,
and they can do it safer and correctly for this model transmission.

I'll be completely frank with you about this:
A 4.10 rear gear will not in-and-of-itself make your Marauder loads faster. It will be quicker, but not outrageous.
HOWEVER, the feel of the car will be changed GREATLY. I cannot emphasize this enough.
I don't know how much modding you've done with cars in the past, but if you have then you know that it should tell you something when you feel the difference in the vehicle when you first pull away from the shop that put the gears in. It is that much, and it is the obvious.
The only way I can put it into words is to say it falls somewhere between feeling like your engine has a substantially improved throttle response, and that your car as a whole has lost a couple hundred pounds.
If you can make it happen in a budget-friendly (but still done right!) way, you should do yourself a favor and do the swap.

I've averaged 13.5 mpg's locally with my 4.10's. I like how quick the car feels, but mpg's are none existent to me.
