Either a bad thermostat, (put it in some boiling water and see if it opens) or your not getting all the air out of the system. Refer to how to "burp" the system. Might be a Sticky or there are many threads on it. Best bet is to Google burping a Mercury Marauder as the search function is difficult to use.

Make sure it's not in backwards alot of people do this. Also search burp system.

Even though it is brand new there is a chance it could be defective and make sure it is for a Mercury Marauder! Our T-stats are specific.
+1 on what Mr. Man said!

Even brand new thermostats can be bad.

1. New thermostat is in backwards
2. Burp cooling system
3. Bad thermostat
NEW stands for Never Even Worked way too frequently nowadays. Drop it in a pan of water stick in a thermometer and see what it does. Also do not rule out a malfunctioning sender or gauge. So before you say that the car is running hot you should either check the temp it is running at with an infrared thermometer pointed at the water tube right before where the hose clamps on or by using a scan tool you can look at live date from the temp sensor.
