While visiting Chicago last month, justbob and I made arrangements to do the J-mod on my MM that Saturday morning before the Chitown GTG.

Start to finish took about an hour and a half to 2 hours as we weren't in a hurry and Bob taking his time explaining things while I took a boat-load of pics along the way. :)

There was quite a bit of "sludge" on the magnet, as Bob pointed out along with a drill shaving that we have no clue as to where that came from. The pan had never been off the car in it's 42k miles. Only a fluid change at a Ford SVT Dealership.

Considering the amount of sludge found, I questioned replacing the filter to Bob and running down the road to get one. Well, Bob saved me a trip, had a spare NIB filter and slapped that puppy in there.

Bob has a spare OEM trans pan now, and my MM is sporting a new replacement with the drain plug that I got from DOOM. :bows:

After everything was buttoned up, and letting her warm up, we took off down the road with Bob at the wheel.

OMG! This things hits HARD! And will bark the tires all day long on the 1-2 shift at only ~1/2 throttle!

Driving is an absolute blast, and cannot remove the shat-eating grin from my face to this day.

One concern that I had mentioned to Bob while wrenching on the car, was the RPM's hitting damn near 6,500 on the 1-2 shift with the rev limiter nowhere in sight. Bob recommended to not make any adjustments with my XCal until we test drove it first.

After the J-mod, she now shifts faster with no slippage, thus dropping the RPM's to around 6,250 where it outta be.

In closing, the J-mod is a must have mod in my opinion.

Bob, I learned a lot while watching you do this and was a helluva lot of fun that weekend. My hat's off to you my friend! :bows::bows:

BTW, when I mentioned reducing the line pressure just a tad when I got back home...

Nah.

:D

I love my JMOD but after the latest mods to boost and fuel supply I had to turn the line pressure way down, I was afraid of doing a 360 while making a turn, especially when the road is wet.

Glad your still happy Mike! After spending over a week now in a quiet, shifting so smooth you'd think it was a one speed rental Altima, I am just about ready to sell LOL

Someday when things slow down around here I will get that write up done... Thanks for taking the pics.

Now go spank that car!

I will echo the JMod results, plus when it comes to these cars, Bob is like Batman, he has a utility belt that always has what you need

Wait, does that make me Robin?

Crap gonna need to figure out a new metaphor

When reading up on the "J-Mod," I came across this detailed write-up. (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CFUQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.crownvic. net%2Ftech%2F4R70Wnotes.pdf&ei=qrMoUIrAC7Dl6gGm94GIBA&usg=AFQjCNHfTI52jKcSIXzITz9Hoo 1MuVbVDg) Is Bob Bowker our very own justbob?

Mike, MM2004

Under normal driving conditions (driving Miss Daisy) does it still hard shift? Or, does it only hard shift under power?

For me, this is critical for a DD in traffic conditions etc.

Yes. It's a very firm shift as my line pressure is still way up there from my tune.

The line pressure can always be reduced in your tune to lessen the "hit" on the shifts.

Two things:

1. What about a write-up for a 4R75W? Is it the same?

2. I'm throwing this out there...
what about doing a "swap" type thing with someone. I mean, I'll send you the valve body/plate; and you send back one that has the proper holes drilled (and what ever else).

(I personally am not comfortable doing this. I don't know of anyone around me (in Toronto), that would really help me).

If you feel comfortable enough to R&R the valve body, you're more than capable of performing the J-mod part. It's really as simple as enlarging a few holes in the separator plate (not drilling any new ones) and removing a couple of springs.

I don't know what "R&R the valve body" means.

Is it the same instructions on a 4R75W?

Remove and Replace, and yes...the 4R75W is the same.
