I went to the alignment shop where I will have the work done so I could show him the inner tire wear on the front tires. I told him that I read on this forum that this is common for MM's and I have the alignment specs to use so this won't happen to my new tires. He said he aligns no less than four 'cop cars' a month and he knows what to do. Ok, would the alignment specs for a Crown Vic be the same as the specs provided by Carfixer? Or am I headed for the same inner tire wear as with MM factory specs?

I would follow the Carfixer specs. Print out the specs and give them to him.

The inside edge wear of the front tires is caused by 2 things: negative camber and negative toe (toe out). Caster is not a tire wearing angle. The outside edge wear can be caused by excessive toe in and aggressive cornering.

Factory camber spec is -.5 degrees or- .75 degrees
Factory toe spec is -.15 degrees or- .20 degrees
(BTW, this info came from their website which is updated periodically and may differ from previously published material, such as cd's and paper manuals)

That means your alignment could have -1.25 degrees of camber and toe out of -.35 degrees and still be in the "green". This will wipe out the inside edges in <20K miles IMO.

All of the MM's I've aligned (about 10) had at least -1.0 degrees of camber and always toe out of -.10 degrees or more from the factory. That's why almost all MM's you see have excessive inside edge tire wear.

For best tire wear, here is what I use on all MM alignments:
Camber: 0 to -.3 degrees.*
Toe: Zero degrees.
Caster: 5-6.5 degrees positive with .3 degree lead on the right side.

*Camber can affect cornering feel. The more negative camber you have, the better it will handle corners. Most drivers will never feel the difference, especially on the street.

carfixer specs are MM specific. Do not deviate.

As I thought. I printed out the specs and will take them with me. That being said, I think I might go to a different shop. Somehow, I just know he is going to do what he always does with Crown Vics. After all, I am just a 'dumb girl' and the people on this forum can't possibly know what they are talking about. I know he does good work and knows what he is doing, but sometimes that keeps people from being receptive to suggestions. Especially when I obviously don't know anything about alignments. Thank you all for your input, and Carfixer for providing the specs.

Take Carfixers specs to the guy and ask for a printout when he's done.... then compare Carfixers specs to the print out.

The Carfixer specs do work, on factory specs I went through 3 pairs of 80-90% treadlife left on the tires but the inside worn down too far. I have close to maybe 18-20k miles on the Carfixer specs now and I can't even tell if my front tires are wearing at all because it's so even. World of difference and did not notice any decrease in handling afterwards but I also went from 235/50 to 255/45.

^^^^^^ Hundreds and HUNDREDS of MMs are aligned to Carfixer's specs, and have proven that they are THE way to go.

Print out the specs, tell him to align to them or no payment; confirm to the aligment print out.

This is exactly what I needed....my front tires inside edge is showing white threads after 20k miles.

Take your car to another shop to get it done if he doesn't want to listen I you!
