Is there a difference between the 4R70W and 4R75W tranny pan? I bought a chrome steel TCi pan with a drain plug that was supposed to be for a 4R70W and it did not fit. I went to put it on today and one corner was off when it came to a bolt hole. Enough that it was a noticable difference. Just curious.

Never heard or seen a difference? Perhaps machining.

Sounds like you got a pan for an AOD-E...they are very similar to the 4R70W except for one bolt in the corner...

externally there shouldn't be a difference. internally the planetary gear was improved.

This is the correct answer...

Ahhhh ok so we have an AOD? Is the AODE electronic? Can a 4R70W still also be labeled AODE? Gonna sell this thing now just wanna know how to label it.

Yes, the AOD-E is just an electronic version of the AOD. The 4R7xW is essentially an AOD-E with a wide-ratio gear set.

There was one trans pan mfr that sold the same pan for both, but included a small threaded plug that was either installed or left off depending on which trans it was being installed on. I don't remember which way was for which trans, though.

Found it... Link (http://www.tciauto.com/tc/aod-aode-4r70w-cast-aluminum-pan.html) If you click on the Instructions tab, it explains about the little threaded plug. Apparently you install it for the AOD-E and 4R70W, but leave it out for the AOD.

Well I guess I will post the pan on here if anyone would be interested in it even though it doesn't fit our factory trannys. Might as well see if someone wants it for another tranny.
