It never ceases to amaze me that everybody and there brother thinks that the MM came with either a turbo or supercharger version of this car. The guy that is replacing me here in theatre, owned a MM for one year 07-08. He had an 03, 300B. We were talking cars and he was saying that he enjoys his Toyota Tacoma and how the value holds well etc, And says, it holds it's value as good as my previous car. And I said, " What kinda car is that?" he says a Mercury Marauder, he says you probably never heard of those before. I said OH :dunno:? Then I figured I'd entertain his conversation and let him explain to me just what he had in it. So long story longer, he said that he had an 03 and in 04 they had a S/C version and a Turbo version from the dealer and made 15,000 of these "Mercury Marauders".

I guess what amazes me is that a previous owner has even bought into the urban legend.

After he was done explaining to me his old car and what it had in it etc. I said to him" guess what kind of car I got" A marauder, and been driving one since 2005 and this is my second one". So we had a little heated discussion at first on the S/C turbo thing. I had to explain the whole Trilogy thing etc. He didn't take me on my, I'll bet every penny in my bank account to yours that it didn't come with a S/C from the factory. After a bit he could obviously see I knew my shat about MM's. I thought it was funny how this urban legend still lives.:help:

Stuff like this is so commonplace I sometimes don't even try to argue with them. You come off like a know-it-all or an a-hole if you win the argument anyway. I can't tell you how many people have seen one of my cars and come up to me trying to impress me about their "1970 Mustang Mach II with the 428 Hemi" that did wheelies on the street on "cheater slicks." when they were a teenager. Or their Foxbody Mustang that turns 10s. When I ask about mods, it has "a Paxton blower" ...

I'll tell you what though, there are some people that suprise you. My 15yo came up to me two weeks ago and said he was at his friend's house and when he turned his laptop on, the desktop background was of a black Mercury Marauder. My son says "Hey! That's a Marauder!" to him and the kid says it's his favorite car, that he had seen one where he works at Shaws. He was pushing carriages in the lot, saw it and fell in love with it. My son asks what it looked like and says "That's my dads!"

Some of the confusion may have been related to the concept cars. IIRC, both of them were S/C'd 2-valve motors, and that was the initial plan for the production cars as well as the '05 model year (had it gone forward).

I'll do my best to keep them going with miss-information so at some point I can slip in " Ya know they had to de-tune the Marauder from the factory do to too much horsepower per Federal guidelines. Originally they were only legal in Alabama." After that I usually get the deer-in-the-headlights look followed by the fly catching jaw drop.

This!! ..Back in '06 I saw my cousin's computer wallpaper and wondered what kinda impala it was, took a second look and he explained to me what a marauder is. Love at first sight:D

I'm totally amazed that with only around 18000-20000 people living here in Prescott how many people know what a Marauder is! Almost every time I drive mine I get compliments from people saying "they really like Marauders","nice car",etc,but a lot never knew they made them in DTR.And it's not from them reading where it says Marauder embossed in the back bumper,most only saw the front or and angle the side.
Funny,there's a thousand times less people here than Chicago but with a 20X increased Marauder recognition rate.

This car never ceases to turn heads. The classic scenario is when im on the highway, and they think im a cop. Then, the proceed to pass me, tilting their head like a puppy, asking themselves, "WTF"?

Others just stare and smile =)
