It's getting close to that time and it doesn't look too promising.
There are a few key members of this event that aren't available this year. :(

I am already scheduled to be in the ATL for the last weekend in October and the first weekend in November.
I have every intention of running the MM while I am there. Either in Commerce or at Silver Dollar. :burn:
Looks like a lot of fun stuff at Silver Dollar.
But closing down the Atl Dragway would be fun too.
Anybody interested in making a meet out of it?

Definitely want to observe this year. My Marauder is in no way a contender but Commerce is the home track so its worth the drive to check it out.

Here are the schedule links for Atlanta Dragway. Under special events it lists the last event as GEORGIA'S SUPER SPORT IMPALA TEAM "GASSIT" SHOOTOUT NOVEMBER 5.

Doesn't look like it's happening.
Traditionally, it has been the 1st weekend in November.

It could still be puled off but it's going to take some work.
I would be more than happy to be one of the sponsors again and do volunteer work while I am there. But as far as organizing an event I am clueless.

The heavy weight shoot out should be happening this year. I have been to test and tune the past two Fridays and tech asked me both times if I am bringing the marauder to the shoot out this year. I don't know why its not showing on the schedule for the last weekend.

I think the Nov 5th date is from last year Stacy. Nov 5 is a Monday this year.

On their calendar here is what I see.
Nov 03 Sat NE GA SWAP MEET &
Racer Banquet @ Buford American Legion

We can still pull this off but it's going to take a concerted effort.
My understanding was there was enough money left over last year to rent the track, but we will still need sponsorship money for insurance, t shirts, etc.

It doesn't sound like Mr. Bishop will be available this year for, he was a BIG part of what made SSHS11 happen as well as being the "voice" of SSHS for as long as I have been attending.

I will do all I can but we need help.

Hey Mike B get in touch with TAF and see if he wants to help out.

Understood Gary, I just pulled the link from the current year they have posted, for both regular events and special events.

I suppose we could try and contact the GASSIT folks.

Here is an excerpt from the last email I got when asking who gets my sponsorship dough.

We have issues confronting SSHS12:
>>
>> 1. Money. As you-all have probably noticed, participation has dropped
>> over the past few years. Revenue has not kept up with expenses, so we have
>> been dipping into the GASSIT treasury.
>> We now have only $1,000 in the account. That is not enough to rent the
>> track, purchase the insurance, obtain the awards and print the shirts.
>>
>> 2. Personell. The architect of the negotiations and contracts is our
>> outstanding announcer, Jim Bishop. Jim's company has just been acquired,
>> and it is likely Jim will have to devote his energy to finding new
>> employment. All this will coincide with the days when Jim is usually
>> focused on the Shootout.
>>
>> As you know SSHS11 was a great success. Does it make sense to retire the
>> event on that high note?

You need around 12,000 bucks to this. If I remember right the track rental was 9,000.00 alone.

It is a great event and for those that have not attended I highly recommend it. Gary travels a long ways to make it each year and so does the rest of the Florida gang. With enough support the "Shootout" could continue. I am with Landy, Mary, Rex, and Gary on this and I will make a contribution as well.

The Show must go on
