I was wondering what you guy think is the way to go for front shocks ?

Monroe Magnums have always been my choice on other cars I have driven.....

I`m going for new tires and may as well do the shocks and wheel alignment at the same time i`m told.........

Any suggestions ???? thanks :burnout:

Make sure you get the alignment done to Carfixer's alignment specs.

Here are the specs if you need them. Make sure you get a before and after printout.

The inside edge wear of the front tires is caused by 2 things: negative camber and negative toe (toe out). Caster is not a tire wearing angle. The outside edge wear can be caused by excessive toe in and aggressive cornering.

Factory camber spec is -.5 degrees or- .75 degrees
Factory toe spec is -.15 degrees or- .20 degrees
(BTW, this info came from their website which is updated periodically and may differ from previously published material, such as cd's and paper manuals)

That means your alignment could have -1.25 degrees of camber and toe out of -.35 degrees and still be in the "green". This will wipe out the inside edges in <20K miles IMO.

All of the MM's I've aligned (about 10) had at least -1.0 degrees of camber and always toe out of -.10 degrees or more from the factory. That's why almost all MM's you see have excessive inside edge tire wear.

For best tire wear, here is what I use on all MM alignments:
Camber: 0 to -.3 degrees.*
Toe: Zero degrees.
Caster: 5-6.5 degrees positive with .3 degree lead on the right side.

*Camber can affect cornering feel. The more negative camber you have, the better it will handle corners. Most drivers will never feel the difference, especially on the street.

I always print out the specs and reason for using them... most techs appreciate it.

Give an explanation that justifies the settings and it won't seem like your pulling them out of your a$$.

As for replacement shocks I went with the KYB's. This is the 1st time I have used this brand also at time of replacement I lowered my car and compared to my 1st 2 MM's the ride in this one with the KYB's & cut coils is fantastic No rough rebound or harsh feeling like with the OE shocks-cut coils . Iam all for the KYB's now they will be the only brand ILL use.

I'm running Monroe Severe Service, both front and back and am well pleased with their performance.

How many miles on your car? The Tokico shocks from the factory were specially valved for the Marauder and are no longer available. I'm not saying replacements aren't any good, just that you don't necessarily need to replace them "just because". Phoebe has over 160,000 miles and still rides and handles just fine.

My car still ride and handles fine, but both front tires have "chopping"
my mechanic tells me this is the shocks causing this.....every other part has been swapped out and its time for tires too so, wanna make it 100% before alignment as well.........

When I replaced the shocks on the beater marauder, I went with standard Grand Marque shocks for an 03. The ride is so, so much smoother and I didn't feel every bump and crack in the road. Makes the car much more enjoyable on long trips.
