What sizes did you get?

They look good.

Can you post a close up pic of the tread. Maybe turn the front wheel.

We were just looking at these last night on line. Highly rated and priced well. They look good on the car! Eric could tell you which site he was on. You could get a good look at the tread.

Ditto... Need the size combo with approx price. I like the look of the fronts. They look wider than the stockers ;) What is the wear rating ? also, does it have the "sway" feeling in the rear? TWSS :help:

I'll get more pics today - they are direct OEM replacement size so the staggered fitment as original. Its tough to say how good they are because my KDWs were bald in the back and the cords were splitting on the inside of the fronts so any new tire would have made a huge difference.

What I can say is they seem way quieter and more comfortable. I took the car for a few runs around Gingerman a week after i got the tires, left the tires inflated as is and they seemed to handle extremely well, good lateral grip and no spinning as I floored it. I have not tried any hard standing starts though so I don't know how they grip from a hard start.

They fit perfect, look good, are quiet and very comfortable.

TireRack has them in stock. 160ish for each tire. Seems like a pretty good price if you want OEM size and all-season traction. TireRack says W rated so more than enough speed rating. I saw they also come in lower ratings so might behoove you to talk to the Rack to make sure you get the higher speed rating.

Well, things being as they are...money tight, and definitely needing front tires. I went up to the Firestone Dealer here in town and looked at these tires. To my surprise, they were on Sale during the month of August.

I got the fronts for 147.99 ea. He didn't have the rears, but the BFG's still have good thread. 6/32 all the way across the tread.

So I asked the price for rears and they were priced at 143.99 ea. Sooo..I ordered them & pick them up on Tuesday. I'll just store them till needed.

Total price for all four came to $583.96. Seemed like a no-brainer. He threw in a wheel alignment, reg. 79.99. The guy hit the carfixer alignment specs right on...

They come with a 40,000 mile warranty....
I'll get some use out of that..

Like stevengerard said, I was quite surprised at how smooth and quiet they are, so we'll see how they go.

I was out driving around and got caught in the post hurricane Issac rain storm that hit here last evening. Encountered some spots of standing water and flooding streets. Brake and steering grip on these tires was impressive, an improvement over the stock BFG's.

As an employee of Bridgestone/Firestone I will add that this new Firehawk Wide Oval AS (All Season) is an excellent tire. They are currently on sale this month for just a few dollars over our cost. I am not sure if they will remain on sale in September. I also checked availability the other day as I remember someone on here saying their local dealer said the tires where not available. Our Chicago warehouse should have plenty of each size so if your local dealer says they dont have them, ask them to check their sister stores and warehouse. Fronts and rears are in stock I checked personally.

Any questions let me know, and I hope this helps. Thanks for the pics of them on your MM. You can bet that I will be putting the same tires on my car if/when I find one!

Ok...
so you've had these on for awhile now "Ozark Marauder".

How are they in the "long-term testing'?

Ozark Marauder
09-14-2012, 07:31 AM
Not really "long term" yet, I've only put 200 miles on them. I only have them on the front. They are more responsive, better grip when turning. It also take less effort to turn the wheel at take off. They grip in the rain, and during braking better. I think the biggest difference is how quiet they are on the highway. The difference is night and day. They soak up the concrete highway expansion joint noise, and real quiet on black top. For the price I got them at, with a 40,000 mile warranty, Quite satisfied....so far.:)

The OP has the full set on his MM, fronts and rears, and more than likely would have a better
"full set" evaluation.

two stints at Gingerman and a couple of thousand miles on them and I think they are great tires. Way quieter and smoother than the OEMs. As for the track they gripped way better and seemed to last longer, only a few times did the car get squirrelly and that was at top speed braking at the end of the straightaway - I was clipping there a few times at speeds I've never hit before (which is also a testament to how well they gripped coming out of the final corner to build up speed).

It started to rain and the tires held up well, so much in fact that after I got off the track I did some hard stops (at low speed) to see if I could get the car to slide and it didn't. Great wet whether tires. I disconnected the ABS as well so it shouldn't have been too hard to lock up the brakes and skid, but the tires held up.

I have a small (5' X 6') climate controlled storage unit. I put them individual black lawn trash bags, sucked the air out with a vacuum, duct tape shut, stored vertically on a wooden pallet. Probably will put them on early summer next year.

Just put fronts on yesterday. Waiting for the rears to come in stock. I missed the sale. Payed 172.99 each. Bought life time alignments for $140. Had them set specs to what I found in forum. Total cost me $480. Saved $53 opening a credit card that won't ever be used.

You sound like a local Firestone customer FX1. You bought a lifetime service and signed up for a credit card. Both of which you will use again for your vehicle.

Are you guys happy with the way the Firehawks look on the wheels? ie-section width.

I am happy with them all around, would I prefer widened rims with Nitto's sure, but its a daily driver and in the down pour this weekend they handled very well in the rain.

Those firestones look super...glad to hear the positive (so far) reviews too.
And the W-30 in the background looks pretty cool for sure...this from a GTO guy for many years back in the day.

I've got the Firestone Firehawk Indy500 Wide Oval (longest darn name I ever heard for a tire) on my MM and they did great at GingerMan at MVX. I can bet you'll like yours.

I have always been a BFG KDWS fan. It appears they will never build them again, however. :(

Is the consensus these Firestones are the best-performing replacement? While I do care about price, the primary consideration is strong sidewalls (minimal sway in the back), high speed rating and good traction.

I am down to the wear bars on the rears.

I'm not sure about the "best" but I always used the KDWS and these are much better to me, especially when it comes to wet roads and cornering. And they are cheaper

Actually I won't ever use the Firestone credit card because I wasn't approved due to no credit history. After a few days my car now pulls to the left, alignments off!! Under closer review my car was not aligned to the specs I gave them. Now ill be going back to get it corrected. Should I just have them put in factory specs ? What's so difficult putting in "carfixers" specs?

1. No...don't get the factory specs if you're able to get "carfixer's" specs.

2. What's so difficult about them?
For one; allot of places won't do anything other than facotory specs for liability reasons. If anything ever went wrong - the customer could always go back and say that the shop didn't do it right. ("Your word against theirs" type thing).
Also; most shops have no idea to remove the "tags"; so they came adjust enough to bring to "carfixer's" specs.
