different fuel makin huge fuel economy difference?

Here's one for you guys. I generally run bp or shell premium fuel in my cars. If i can afford it I run Sunoco 93 octane. Its generally 10-15 cents more then premium per gallon. My old 06 mustang ran way better with it then anything else so I figured id try it in the marauder. Just got 115 miles out of my first 1/4 tank and normally I get about 80-85. Any thoughts?

Pay attention to Ethanol content. It affects mpg more than octane. Running non-ethanol gives me 5mpg more than running fuel with the 10% ethanol added.

Same here (I see about a 2 -3 mpg gain), but with the price subsidies on ethanol-added gas, the increased mileage gained still doesn't offset the difference in price, so I normally run the 10% added stuff...

FWIW, I get my best mileage from Shell V-Power, Sunoco doesn't do much for my car, but each one is different.

No doubt the shell v-power 91 is different here than other places but they say the 91 has no ethanol. They are required to add 5% to their fuels but apparently add more than the 5% to their regular so they don't have to add any to their 91. Some of their pumps say no ethanol on their 91.

Anyone else see this?

I can't find any gas here in Myrtle Beach that does not have 10% ethanol...I like Sunoco 93 the best..I pulled into a Sunoco in Spartenberg and no 93,only 92..

If Y'all can "buddyup" to the managers at the stations in question,the ethanol content(%) and additives are listed on their "Drop" ticket at the point of delivery.
This will put any "what ifs" away....
My wife sells 8-10K a day thru a branded Chevron station...Pumps say "UP TO" but actual is 2%...(In Jefferson Co,AL--Birmingham area):eek:

what about the news lately about bad gas from BP......was mentioned again on the news last night.......I was unfortunate enough to get some a while ago.....idled rough....hesitated upon acceleration.....only good thing about it was I only got $30 worth and at these prices you don't get much....the great state of Illinois was on the news this morning....highest gas prices in the 50 states....even higher than Hawaii where it's shipped in....WTF...plus the extra added benefit of the "summer blend"....more crap.....

i notice only a negligible difference in fuel economy when running 10% ethanol. there are only a few stations on OKC with 100% gasoline and only 1 station with 93 octane :(

I don't seem to notice much difference, but perhaps it's due to my tune being done on the 10% crap. Also, up here in the People's Republic portion of the nation, pure gasoline is outlawed. Worse yet, they're supposed to be going to 15% soon. In the '55 Ford, my boats, and all my small engine toys/tools, I use the blue enzyme to counter any ethanol issues. I know the 10% stuff played havoc with my 88 special Johnson's seals and hoses. A pricey lesson indeed.

15 gallons with extra 5mpg =
15 x 5 = 75 extra miles driven on the 15gal
75/20mpg avg = 3.75 gallons of gas saved
3.75 x $4gal = $15.00 saved by running non-ethanol premium

Cost here is $0.30 per gal higher for NEP vs. reg w/ethanol
15gal x .3 = $4.50 extra cost

Spend $4.50 to save $15, I’ll take that all day long. Plus the car has significant more throttle response, pep and drivability enjoyment. Win Win Win! :D

The Gas mileage in my Marauder has recently dropped from 19.2 MPG to 17.3 MPG. That is roughly a 10% drop. I could not figger out why.
If my gas station has switched to the 10% ethanol - that could explain the difference.
Gas here is $4.399 for 91 octane. 10% is $0.44 a gallon.
Big difference. I am going to try a gas station with no ethanol.

Cost differential (at least here) is about $0.40/gal between the 10% and pure stuff.

I also double checked my mileage data, and was quoting the wife's hybrid Escape; my car's only about 1.5 mpg difference, so I'm just going with the corn for now... ;)

If you're not specifically tuned for 93 octane, the 91 is better. If you've done a tune for 93, use the 93. The ethanol "artificially" improves octane as it requires more energy to ignite it. A long time ago, we used to put about a quart of methanol (another alcohol product) into about 5 gallons and step on the timing a bit. The methanol prevented detonation (increased octane value).

As long as you are tuned for 91 you'll get better performence with the 91 non over 93 with.

If you are tuned for 93, stay with 93 (see if you can locate 93non and you'll really jump!).
