AC works but not coming out of the vents. The air jus comes out on the floor and the defroster vent by the windshield. Any suggestions?

I don't know much about it. But it's the O-rings. Someone will tell you what todo to fix it.

Crap! I thought the defrost / floor issue, was the classic "blender door malfunction"?

(I'm not understanding the signs!)

EATC is configured to default to defrost if there are solenoid issues, that would be the first thing to check, especially if you're still running the OEM o-rings.

I currently do not have an issue; but I'm trying to learn the signs so when it does happen - I know what to go after. (I've obviously got it wrong).

If the defalts to defrost with a soleniod issue - what are the signs of a failed blender door?

Oooh, oooh...I think I know that 1....

You get broiling hot air coming out of the correct locations even with a fully functional a/c system.
Ask me how I know

Ooohhh. Got it.

Defrost / floor = o rings
Hot air with A/C selected = blender door.

Thanks.

Or... Its -10* and you leave for work smiling as you drive down the road all nice & toasty in your warm MM and by the time you get there the interior has changed temp to match outside because the air coming from the vents is FREEZING!!!:mad2: Ask me how I know. That weekend fire up garage propane heater & do a "blend door actuator R&R". All good! :D

Hugojax,

Fastblackmerc just fixed my ETAC and I installed it Friday morning. It's blowing cold out the vents again!

The more I hear of people who do the relatively easy and cheap o-ring swap and it fixes their problem, it really gets my britches in a bunch!!!! :mad2:

And why are your britches in a bunch??

BECAUSE IT DIDN'T FIX MINE!!!
(Disclaimer: fastblackmerc, you had nothing to do with any of this, just in case you think I'm implying YOU didn't fix mine).

I'm now staring down the barrel of having my entire dashboard removed from the car to replace blend door....to the tune of several hundred $$ in labor alone :mad2:

You might have the same problem I had last year. O-rings needed to be replaced anyway, but the real problem with my unit was that the plastic manifold that the o-rings sit in was cracked. So, even with the new rings, the vacuum leak took over as the real culprit. I had to find another unit that I then did a mix and match with.

I wrote about this last year. Since then, I have found about 10 people with this specific problem. FastBlackMerc's o'ring fix fixes the vast majority of this problem. The rest of us didn't get so lucky.

You might have to spring for another whole (rebuilt) unit. Unfortunately, the only way to confim this problem is by mostly disassembling the ETAC. You might want to investigate this route before the blend door fix.

Thanks for the info Randy. I've actually replaced the EATC already (with a used unit, but seller said it worked before he pulled it. Since I still have the exact same problem, I choose to believe he was truthful). My mechanic agrees that the problem is likely with the blend door itself. I understand that is the most expensive part to replace because the entire dash has to come out of the car. I am not happy.

The dash doesn't have to come out, just loosened so you can get to the blend door motor. The motor itself it about $75.00.

Do you want to sell an EATC?

OK, so it sounds like you've done your homework and figured out the real problem. Good - sort of :mad2:. And I see that FastBlackMerc has given you some additional good advice as well.

Good luck - I know you'll get it fixed soon - winter's a comin'....

When the dust settles and I'm left with 1 extra EATC (which will happen), you'll be my 1st PM.

I'm looking to replace blend door, not motor (I did that already )
