Here is the cap during a burnout, more videos are on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aM0OcUeW7q8

Member lji372 was able to make a design for the factory rim that works great, also see his post on pg 3 or 4 and see his videos on youtube, search "Floating Marauder Center Cap"

Thanks

Yes some sort of bearing set up would work. Make sure to use a high dollar bearing, they turn a LOT...I like your wheels but you need some bigger brakes!

I may have to change my rims if I have to to get those on my car.
If you want to sell kits for this put me down for the first set!!

I will look into modding the factory cap to be able to float in the factory rims. I'm sure that would be a hot commodity if I can figure out how to make it at a reasonable price. I have to be sure the quality is superb if I'm doing it for others. But I'll look into it and get back if I figure it out.

Thanks for the compliment

I'm almost finished with a mod to the stock cap that works. I just have to test it out, problem is my stock rims are across town. So by the end of the day I should have a video of it.

Here is the stock cap... I need to refine it and perfect it, but I have it figured out

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/111893634624205993217/albums/5787684845046399601/5787684845281342482

before I would think about doing it for others, I need to be sure I can do it efficently and with superior quality. I'll keep refining it. Get a video of it in action on a stock marauder rim and post a video once I do.

I will try to finish the mod for the stock rims and post a video as soon as I can. Problem is I have to either replace all my rims with factory to do a real test run or find someone with stock rims in town to test on? once I finish the cap I will figure that part out.

Thank You for everyone who has looked and commented...

I'm working on a set right now w/help from the OP (supplied the parts).
The problem I'm having is my clips for the caps are too loose/worn -130K miles.
It does work w/a tight fitting cap.
I need to get a set of cap clips - no point in taking apart a brand new set of G/H caps.
Anyone know if the Mustang center cap clips fit the MM rims?

I have a set of '06 mustang rims and the marauder cap fits but, sticks a little so the mustang caps will be loose in a marauder wheel.

Can you give us a how to so others can create this mod?

Member Krytin is currently working on making the mod work for the factory rim. My rim was just a little different as far a specifics and measurements. So, I supplied him with the necessary parts and pieces, nothing too complicated, actually very simple, however I did have to order pieces and alter some to make it work.

Once he is able to successfully finish the mod on the factory wheel, we will see if it is plausible to sell a kit with instructions, have caps mailed and modded for a fee, or just post a DIY for everyone to attempt individually with a parts list.

Problem is, there are websites and places that charge $600 to perform this mod for people. I have people email me from youtube occasionally asking how to do it or if I will mod theirs. So its a hot commodity and I'd hate to just have anyone jump on our site and steal the idea. I wouldn't mind Marauders having the mod, but I would hate to see every Honda and whatever else having the same thing because it would eliminate the originality that it currently has.

Wait for an update from Krytin as far as ability on stock rims and we can go from there.

No disrespect or discredit to your idea at all I'm interested in this mod as well. But can't be mad at a Honda or whatever else when it was an idea brought publicly by Rolls Royce (may have been someone else) but they made it as well. Either way. Someone keep us posted on this. Thanks.

i have no patience, i'm ordering a set of caps and will get this accomplished asap
any tips via pm will be appreciated.
i now have a good reason to utilize my shop for the betterment of my rides
(maybe i found a loophole to write them off as a business expense!!)

*update*stayed home sick from work today (cough, cough), but have saved enough strength to hit the local rim shop to see how a similar rim is done :)
all they had were big ugly dub rims :/

went as far as pulling one off my car ripping it apart and am currently searching for the best bearing i can find for fit and function-maybe a different method because i don't see a wobble issue. maybe just a different way to skin a cat. i have two speeds procrastination or relentlessness, guess which one this mod falls under :)

i found a sealed bearing with a nice free roll. open bearing would roll with less resistance but am concerned with dirt getting in the bearing and causing havoc over time. Put my mock up in the manual lathe today and ran it at about 1150rpm. Everything looked good. Cnc was busy with a money making job:mad2: will get in there tomorrow to make my drill and assembly fixture and spin a few stems. everything should get put together on it tomorrow and wait a day for the epoxy to dry then we'll go from there. I am only doing one cap for now and will post results.
Using epoxy, lead and body filler (for weight), a bearing, aluminum stem (turned in a lathe), a washer, and a nut.

Once the other designs are done, I'll be more than happy to share. I feel like two or three minds solving a problem independently, then collaborating can make a better product or design. Unless we all design the same thing.

The issue is, everything must be very precise, especially for the factory cap to work inside the rim because it mounts recessed into the rim. So while you may have it spinning, the hard part is mounting it inside the rim and to remain functional.

My rims have removable cap pieces that I can easily work on and test and the actual godshead doesn't sit recessed like on the factory rim. That is why I sent the materials to Krytin to perfect the factory cap before sharing the design.

Well after more time than I expected they are on table letting the epoxy cure. Was a little more work than expected making the fixture. Made it so I can put these together anywhere with a hand drill and have them centered to themselves. The only issue I saw so far is the stock rim eats up a some of the central tolerance as it all appears cast and polished where the inner cap seats and not machined central. Which makes it even more important for the two pcs to be assembled as accurate as possible. All four were put in four times turning the portions hat clips into the rim. all offset the same direction on the rim which proves the ring in the middle of the rim is not always central.
I myself can't believe how centered you got the stock one in your video without machinery.

And yes I put myself in the doghouse with this:alone:
2nd edit couldn't sleep cause like a dummy drank too much coffee working on dumb (very cool) center caps, so just cleaned the kitchen as the possibility exists of working my way out of said dog house......

Great work and great ideas different folks have here for personalizing their MMs...
I ordered some chrome bullet tips from a chev parts catalog...took the God'shead off the oem center caps of my MM, drilled a hole directly in the center of the oem cap, and bolted the bullet tip on it from behind. Then snapped the whole thing back in the centers of the wheels.
Some good ol' boy asked me the other day in the local grocery store if those were 'some sort of spinners'?

NOT!

I bet his bMw is a "Vine" colored one (maroon DTR).... Hahahahahahaha....

just kidding. I really like the invisible string comment. I've been wrenching on my sons jeep all day (replace all h20 hoses--they lasted 25 years!)... So it took my a few minutes to get the joke.

My son is 16.5 and we had a great father/son holiday.... I let him figure out the hard steps and the hard parts... He learned about water systems today and was proud of his work!

THOSE DREADED FLOATING CAPS HAVE INVADED MY MIND... AND NOW CANNOT SLEEP WITHOUT THEM. I MUST HAVE A SET ASAP.

and make one for our "ur-a-peon" friend too! Only make his static, so the don't float!

Installed my spinner center caps yesterday while the wheels were being balanced. Fit like a champ [they should, made with stock caps :-)] and spin like crazy.
I call them stealth bling.
I tried eBay for 4 center caps. Then just Googled the part number. Fordpartsgiant.com had them for less than any of the eBay guys. Just checked and they are still 33.79 each. When I modify a part I prefer to keep the original and modify a new one. So I bought 4 caps and fired them off to Jerry [ lji372 ]
I also had him do a little project for flag pole parts.
