. Tried to find an exciting thread on this but no luck... i filled my MM on monday with nothing other then 93, and during the course of the week my gas gauge never fell below full... Today after pt my cel come on and i went to the local ricer zone here and had them plug it in... the code read fuel level send unit. They want 253 dollors for whole unit including fuel pump, sensor, and harness. Has anyoneelse had this issue. Anyway to correct the problem with out replacing the whole unit? Thx in advance for you knowledge

Personally I wouldn't do it with a full tank of gas. I'd let the tank get way below 1/4 full.

I have had to do a few. Need the gas to be below 1/4 tank.
Shut off air suspension and raise rear of car until wheels are off the ground a few inches.
Have to undo the bolt that holds the filler neck to the tank (but you don't have to remove the filler neck itself). Also there are two lines on the passenger side inboard of the wheels. Disconnect those to get more travel in the tank.
Disconnect the lines and wires from the sending unit.
Support the tank and remove the passenger side tank strap, leave the drivers side attached, but back the nut off to the very end of its travel.
Lower the tank down on the passenger side. It should sort of hang on the drivers side strap.
Remove the bolts and then remove the sending unit/pump. You may have to wiggle it around a bit to get it back in place.
Assembly is the same as removal. Make sure the gasket is correctly in place.
The tank dos not have to come out of the car like the book says.

When installing a new fuel pump, or in my case a new fuel level sending unit, be sure to tq bolts to 90in lbs, and make sure that none of them are striped (in my case) then drive to a military air field and have the fire dept, epa, and the mp, surround your car like its about to blow... Problem solved by tapping a 7mm and getting a new bolt from your local hardware store.
She runs fine and reads proper. Hopfully i can enjoy driving belle for a little while till she decides to give me more shhh.....

I would definitely change out the pump as well, your in there, you don't want to do the job twice. I would also recommend using a FOMOCO part or a Motorcraft part. The only aftermarket pump I would ever use in a stock application would be Carter. NO OTHERS...the gauges don't read right, and the pumps are never spot on for pressure or bleed back. Just MHO and 20 years of the auto industry...
