Before anyone becomes runner-up for the Idiot of the Year award, I have a .pdf of the official Ford upfitters manual that includes things like where NOT to drill holes in the trunk. Anyone wants a copy PM me your email.

Just drop the tank and have it welded up. Shouldn't be much of a job for welding at all. I have just heard the tanks bolts can be a SOB to start the thread again as they are a bit short. Haven't had the pleasure myself yet. I certainly wouldn't let something like that stop me from a road trip.

The way a hole in a steel gas tank used to be fixed was to empty the tank fill with water.... to make sure there are no fumes in the tank (the liquid gas doesn't burn it's the fumes that burn), clean the area around the hole and solder a penny over the hole.

yes i agree but it was late and i was tired and not thinking straight.
Just a update looks like i going to be ok I used my dremel tool and opened the hole up in the trunk so now i can see the pin hole in the tank, so off to get some sealant let it cure and i be on the road again.

Very true a full tank is safer than a empty tank, if you had no fumes you can actually put fire out with gas it just the fumes get in the way and explode.
this hole is about a 1/16" it was made from the self piercing tip of a #8 screw so since there products like jb weld i not dropping the tank a welding a penny but yes i have done that years ago it works good.
