Cone Engineering/Megs 2012 Marauder Tip Run

Ok, guys the time has finally come to start the preorders flowing. This year's run will be similar to last year. We have had to increase the price slightly due to increases in costs over the past year. The following applies to this year's run:

3.50” Tip (ST627)
304 stainless steel, bright polish with Megs logo. 2.25” (ST627) or 2.50” inlet (ST627-250), 26” long, 3.50” outlet with rolled edge at a 27 degree angle. No resonator. Retail price $110 per tip ($220 per pair). Shipping cost, UPS Ground Continental US, $20 per pair. International orders (normal range $60-$120 depending on location).

4.00” Tip (ST640)
304 stainless steel, bright polish with Megs logo. 2.50” inlet only, 26” long, 4.00” outlet with rolled edge at a 15 degree angle. No resonator. Retail price $135 per tip $270 per pair). Approximate shipping cost, UPS Ground Continental US, $30 per pair. International cost to be determined, but anticipated packaging will be 18 pounds per set, in a 32” x 8” x 8” box.

Terms & Conditions: We need committed pre-paid orders for at least 25 sets (50 tips) of each size (3.50" or 4"), before we can begin production. We take your order and credit card information; however no charges are processed until the minimum production quantity is reached. At that time your credit card would be charged as the order goes into production.

Incentives:
On the 3.50” we are again offering pre-production specials including a 10% discount and free shipping in continental US. Overseas orders get a $20 shipping credit. Orders from stock after production are at full price.

This year we will also offer 10% off the 4” tips when preordered like we do on the 3.50" tips. We will also offer free UPS Ground shipping for continental US customers. Overseas orders likewise get a $20 shipping credit.

Timing:
It all depends on how long it takes to get enough orders for 25 sets OF EACH SIZE. The earliest start of production would be early November and latest would be to ship prior to Mid-December. If we have not received enough orders by 11/1 then the program could be cancelled. No charges will be made to customers until after the decision has been made to go forward with production.

DO NOT INCLUDE CREDIT CARD INFO. We will call you to get that information. You will receive an email sales order confirmation as verification that we received your order. If you don’t get the Sales Order confirmation within a few days then please contact us.

We did tack weld it back just like the OEM. I saw another MM that did not do that and it looked great still.

We have 38 pieces out of the 50 minimum needed to run the ST640 (4"). From the initial flurry it has died off so beat the bushes! Need at least 12 more tips/6 sets by the end of the month. From past experience we actually need about 3-4 sets extra for people that won't be able to go through.

The 3.50" sets aren't looking good at all. We've only got orders for 12 pieces so we aren't even 25% there yet. We also need to get to 50 pieces on this order.

They are not immediately interchangeable. The 4" have a 2.50" inlet whereas the 3.50" are meant to fit the OE or OE size exhaust systems which is 2.25". The 2.50" inlet is usually if they have swapped out for aftermarket at some point.

You can fab an adapter but be careful of developing a drone on the 4" on a 2.25" tailpipe. If you go that route we'd recommend extending a tailpipe into the tip a fair distance, to keep up the velocity of the exhaust pulse. The drone is caused when the pulse tries to fill up that big tip and begins to warble, if you paint the tailpipe black before installing tip you're not likely to notice.

In fact, this is a recommended idea for just about any rolled edge tip. If you look at a OE tip you usually see it done this way. Not necessary but it can save some headaches down the road.

We've achieved the 50 unit minimum threshold for running the 4" tip (ST640) so they will be a go, assuming we don't get a lot of cancellations when we start calling for credit card info.

The 3.50" tips (ST627 and ST627-250) are at only 18 units so we need to get that number up before we can run them. I'm considering dropping the minimum quantity needed to 30 units IF buyers would be willing to give up the presale discount. We calculated our costs on a run of 50 pcs so by dropping the discount I could decrease the minimum run quantity and cover most of the additional cost per unit of a smaller order. This only applies to the 3.50" tips - and we would still offer the free US/discounted Int'l shipping. If you had ordered a set of 3.50" tips, send me an email to let me know you'd be willing to do this.

OK! here's the 411 as of 11/1:

3.50"
We decided to run the 3.50" tips even though not enough initial orders were received. Those that had already ordered were gracious enough to waive their pre-buy discount in order to make it happen. Out of fairness to them we will continue to take pre-orders only until the end of next week (11/8), after that the free shipping offer will go away and we will take standby orders in case anyone cancels their order. Standby's don't assure you parts, they are only available on the event of cancellations or overrun.

So if you had been waiting to see whether a run was going before ordering, act now or forver hold you peace! We didn't run the 3.50" last year and we won't be running much if any overstock. Looks like these might go on hiatus for a few years until demand build up again.

The tip tun is in danger of getting cancelled. We are still waiting for several people to return calls regarding payment and have also had several cancellations this week.

If you are sitting on the fence, now is the time to act. If we do run this year as I hope, it is really doubtful if there would be a run next year as demand drops every year - last year we had pre-orders for 75 of the 4" units, this year I can't scrape up 50. And we dropped the minimum on the 3.50" to 25 and I am struggling to get that.

So tell all your friends if they might want a set in the next couple years to jump in now! There is definitely not going to be any overstock run.

I am really hopeful that we will get a couple more people as well as the last few stragglers and be able to make this happen! Updates will be posted as I have news.

We have been shipping orders last week and this week. International orders go out tomorrow.

It looks like we have between 3-6 sets left of each size. ST627, 2.25" inlet x 3.50" outlet and ST640, 2.50" inlet x 4" outlet.

If you're looking for a big increase in dB with that set-up, you'll be disappointed.

The res-delete tips will add tone, but not volume, and deleting the second set of cats won't add much sound either through OEM mufflers.

I'm running FRPP shorty headers, a Mac Pro Chamber mid-pipe, a single set of high flow cats dumping into stock mufflers with 4" res-delete tips and it's still quiet (just the way I want it).

OK, here is the real count as of 12/11/12:

3.50": 4 sets available - $110.00 per tip, most cars use two tips.

4": 3 sets available (one on hold awaiting phone call) - $135.00 per tip, most cars use two tips.

Shipping: Really depends on where you live. Generally UPS Ground is $25 in the continental US. For International orders we ship USPS Priority International and that runs about $60 to Canada and $85 for most other countries.

When they are all gone I will post up a SOLD sign. Until then the safest way to get a set is give us a phone call. 714-828-3580.

They do change the appearance of the car from the back. If you compare two cars side by side, one with OEM tips and the other with 4", you can definitely see the difference.

They do look pretty mean. Its like a fist sized hole. I dont really have many engine mods so I dont see a real point to change them if I dont do headers and full pipes. I always thought they were 2.5 because there are 3.5 tips offered here as well as the 4.

Finally got these things in after I left them outside for a couple days. These things are HUGE!!! Wasn't expecting that but they're really nice thanks Rich and Cone Eng. Any problems or anything I should expect to hang me up on the install??

My install took under an hour for my exhaust guy, start to finish.

I got mine installed the same day they came in. The shop ended up welding a 2.5" intermediate pipe to the 2.25" OEM exhaust. We then aligned the tips with the fascia, tack welded them in place, and finished off the weld. The intermediate pipes only go into the tip about 6-8", and I can tell you that there is no cabin drone whatsoever ! Now I've got the 2nd cats removed and the new tips. Very happy customer.

oh yes. I got in on the last run of 4" tips. just gotta find some time to go get it installed. in addition to the tips I have some other exhaust work I want to take care of, so I will do everything all at once

We're interested in running the tips again this year but after last year I am doubtful that we can get enough orders to make it work. The production target is 50 tips, not 50 sets.

Last year we shot for 25 orders but never made it so we dropped down to 20 sets on the 4" and 15 sets on 3.50". Unfortunately we had over a 25% dropout rate when it came time to pay we were way under our minimum but we ran them anyway. Those extra sets took about 6 months to sell out. It hurts because my pricing assumes not having to hold any stock and spreading fixed costs of running these over a certain production quantity.

I will key an eye on that thread and if we get enough interest we'll go for another run. But this year we will need 25 solid paid orders, I can't go under that since it didn't work out last year.

As far as the lower quantity on group sales many years ago, that one really burned us. We ran a much larger order to get that offer price and we sat on the balance of that order for almost 5 years until they sold out, won't do that again either!

Once you have the interest @ 25, I don't see any issue with requiring pre-pay or a non-refundable deposit to start the run. You've been a vendor here long enough that there is no worry of you running off with the $$$.

I hope it works out for you guys, I got the 4" tips last year and they are single handedly the coolest mod on my car, I love em.
