Had some free time today, since the rain never stopped, so I started on my list and repaired my EATC control head. I also ordered the CAI which will be here around Tue/Wed, and browsed around at mufflers. Now, this is the first car I've owned since my SVT Contour went to Mexico, so I've always been in a truck. I put Richmond 4.11s and an Auburn in my Ram, and put FMS 4.10s and and FMS LSD in my F-150, then wished I'd have gone with 4.30s. So, what are yall running in your MMs?

4.10's. My original 04 had stock gears, current ride came with 4.10's. I lost 1.5 mpg but gained many more smiles to the mile.

I love the 4.10s - after T242 install with the 4.10s I still get 24mpg (better than N/A w/3.55s)!

Have you even driven a S/C'd MM with 4.30's??? I'm not the only one with them either.

I know I'm doing the gear swap, never could stick with anything in the "3" range, but it looks like I'm still stuck between 4.10 and 4.30. Gears changes are easy enough to do, might just pick up both and see which I like best. My MM will be N/A, at least for quite some time.

I've watched 20+ gear swaps and I still don't have it in me to try it... stuff that takes precision measuring kicks my ass all the time :(

I was the same way before I did my first set at work, been about 12 years ago but I remember it well. After all was said and done...................and the thing made it back from a test drive........................t hat's when I realized how over-worried I was. Willing to bet that you could knock one out no problem if you had everything you needed. The only problem I seem to run into is that my luck always leaves me without the ONE shim I need, and about 278 that are useless for the job I'm doing!

When the tech installed my 4.10's he used the same shims that were there for the 3.55's.

The best compromise is the 4.10 with a Truetrac. With the Lidio tune, the 4.10 ratio is about perfect.

I should have gone with the Truetrac instead of the Detroit Locker, but the noise & backlash doesn't bother me anymore. It took me a year to get used to it!

You can keep your fancy-smancy Kevlar clutches and any other differentials - I want a do-it-right-the-first-time fix. The preload spring removal & installation alone will drive you nuts.

When converting, always change to 31 spline axles, and use a solid pinion spacer. which allows any future changing of the the rear seal without upsetting pinion preload.

Converting to 9" ends is a problem with the ABS and parking brake. A 9" housing conversion is a problem with adapting the Watts link, not to mention adapting everything else.

I was impressed with the 1-2 & 2-3 shifts after changing to 4.10 from OEM 3.55's (with the Lidio tune).
