So I blew out my front seal on my trans on the way home from MV10. I've been told I need to rebuild the trans and get a new torque converter. They said since the fluid all drained out I need a new one

Total cost $1700 with 12,000 mile 1 year warranty.

Questions
He does not want to use my art carr kit I have or if he does he won't warranty it. Should I find a place willing to use the kit?

I had a PI 3500 stall, I'm thinking of going lower (3000 maybe). I am S/Ced with 4.10s - does it matter what brand they go with? Does it really need to be replaced? A 3000 would be fine wouldn't it?

I have the J-mod instructions I guess whoever I use should follow those correct?
Any other trans shops in the Chicago area near Oak Park that would be good to go to?

I may be wrong...but I would guess that it's gonna be real difficult to find a shop that will modify a transmisson; then still warrany it.

Unless you get a tranny that is already modified.

A google search turns up a few companies that offer performance trannys.

PI should be able to repair/rebuild your converter, most shops will only warranty there own parts, im not sure if Art carr is still in buisiness , if so see what they want for a rebuild?

did the trans shop pull it apart and tell you you need a rebuild? or did they just say it by looking at it?

my mechanic took look inside said the seal blew out but nothing looked burnt, though he can't tell for sure until he takes it out completely. He filled the trans back up with fluid and said the converter instantly hooked up so he feels that converter is still good. He thinks he could replace the seal and it all be good but he said he would hate to do that only to have issues shprtly down the road. That's why he suggested the trans shop - he did say again that the converter should be fine.

Drop the pan and based on an inspection I would just replace the seal and drive it before spending on a complete rebuild. Worst thing is you pay for another tow and rr labor.

If thats the case i would replace the seal and go from there! no need to fix it if it aint broke!;)

If you decide on a new trans then PM ChiStallion and talk to him about who did his. He spoke very highly of them, the cost was peanuts, and they DID install parts that he previously bought and still warrantied the work. Northern burbs I believe, and his issue was a leaky front seal as well.

well, good thing I brought it to a trans shop. My cousin went there and said it was burned up bad. I have an older Art Carr trans kit so they took a look at all the parts and will use those and do the Jmod. I was actually going to see if anyone at MVX wanted the kit as it just sat on my shelf for a while now, good thing I decided to keep it "just in case." They will send out the converter and suggested changing the starter as long as it is accessible.

Good, I am glad that you are going through the whole thing to make sure its right. You won't regret it! I would def go ahead and throw in a starter. Make sure that they flush your trans cooler in the radiator very well. This is the number one cause of failure after a rebuild. If there was a ton of metal in the pan I would bypass the factory cooler and instal an aftermarket one.
