I was just curious if anyone's taken a look at this 2003 Marauder (http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?tracktype=usedcc&csDlId=&csDgId=&listingId=96562160&listingRecNum=5&criteria=sf1Dir%3DASC%26mkId%3 D20074%26stkTyp%3DU%26mdId%3D2 1449%26rd%3D100000%26mlgId%3D2 8859%26crSrtFlds%3DstkTypId-feedSegId-mkId-mdId-mlgId%26zc%3D89044%26rn%3D0%26 PMmt%3D1-1-0%26stkTypId%3D28881%26sf2Dir% 3DASC%26sf1Nm%3Dprice%26sf2Nm% 3Dmiles%26isDealerGrouping%3Df alse%26rpp%3D50%26feedSegId%3D 28705&aff=national&listType=1) in Phoenix. For some reason lately most of the listings for these cars are on the east coast. :(

Thought I'd ask before I start thinking about driving down from Vegas...

Thanks!

If you wouldn't mind posting his report I'd appreciate it. I know it's been listed for several months so I'm wondering why it hasn't been snatched up yet.

My buddy just called me from the lot. He said stay away from it unless I want to paint the entire car
Lots of scratches all over it. He is sending me pics later.

Alot of 300As have paint problems- Especially the early ones.

It could be a good car-Lowball them with the intent to respray.

Very early build 300A. Somewhere around 6-10 June 2002. Might be a real close cousin to MERCMAN and chapel1.

^^^^ What he said. If the car's in good shape mechanically, and you can get it cheap, getting it repainted would be worth it.

The problem I have run into in my searching in the past month is that when people have these cars, even with paint problems they still want a premium price. Lets face it. My buddy is a paint/body guy that looked at the car in Phoenix the other day. For a quality repaint you are looking at a bare minimum of 3 grand. Lets be honest with ourselves and just call it 5 grand. So you have a 85k mile car, and they are asking 11,000................... you wont pick that car up for 6,000. Lets say by some chance you can get the car for 8 or 8500, you will still end up over the original asking price of the car after paint.

Why not find a higher mileage car that has been maintained and maybe already re-painted? Let someone else absorb that cost.

The real problem I guess I have is that I dont want to spend over 10 grand................ and it looks like it will take me a while to find the right car. Which I am prepared to do.

Or I just go spend 15 and get a really nice car..............

I'd say that would be full of WIN!

After a repaint. You would end up with a beautiful Looking Marauder with lower miles and in good mechanical condition.

Even if the total cost is over the original asking price. In the end, you'd have a much nicer car.

Gotta agree, 85K is nothing on these cars if normally maintained, and with new paint, you'd have a nice car that you'll enjoy for years to come..

Ask around at the local car shows or go where the street rodders/muscle car guys go for paint work. But as you have figured out..those places prolly will be in the $5k+ range.

Most body guys do work on the side for cash, it's usually 1/3-1/2 per hour what shops charge with similar quality results.

The car doesn't look that bad.

As Charlie (Bluerauder) notes, it's an early 300A - Could be worth the trouble.
