View Full Version : REAL paint woes

:depress: So there I was, heading off for a nice round of golf when, BLAMO, it happened. Seems some woman in an uninsured, there-by, unregistered 92ish Jeep Cheroke decided it was the perfect time to run a red light and sideswipe me. No injuries, except my feelings, and of course my Marauder. Damage is somewhat minor, but IMHO I'll need a new left rear door, new left front fender, new bumper cover, and a new left front wheel. There's some scraping on the drivers door, but it doesn't look like any metal damage. The body lines are still straight (gaps between doors, fenders hood ,etc.). I'm thinking it's probably a good time to repaint the entire car. I'll post some pictures as soon as I can figure out how to shrink them down. Now thw fun part, talking with insurance folks who want to fix it as cheaply as possible. Any advice on dealing with them is greatly appreciated. :shake:
Paul...I sent you an email. Very sorry to hear this.

Yo Paul, I am sure that TAF just having been through the problem with his is very qualified to offer assistance.
See you soon.

That sucks Paul!
Now would be a great time for a repaint,... and perhaps a good time to have some other mods done as well. ....gears, brakes, exhaust,... you get the idea.
Maybe this black cloud will have a silver lining in the end!

I hate these stories, very bad. Good thing you weren't hurt, MM's can be fixed and replaced, not members.
And besides, recreating a P.T. Casey would require quite a bit of ingredients:P

All this means is that your car will look even better (if that's possible) then before. I'm sure they will make it right. Uninsured drivers really piss me off.

Paul - Glad that you are OK. Make sure they use genuine Ford parts and no cheap after market junk. :(

Good news on insurance (mine) so far. They recommend Ray Pearman here in Huntsville, whom I've heard great things about from the locals. Other choices are a Ford dealer, and a Mercury Dealer near by. Lady at Progressive knew about Marauders, my have influenced her decision.

I am beginning to form a theory that MMs experience a higher than average rate of damage than many other cars.
I think they are so large they may have their own gravitation field and they just suck in these other cars thus causing all these collisions.

Paul I'm glad you are ok (except for your feelings), it's got to hurt.:( I can say from experience that as painful as this is; it may be an opportunity to make your car better. Tour the repair facility you believe you want to chose, the larger usually the better, look for a sample of completed work and ask a lot of questions about exactly how they will do the job. Demand all OEM Ford parts allow no subtitutions. Let us know how it goes. Javier.

Having been through my own run-in with a red light runner I absolutely sympathize with you. Sorry to hear about the damage to your car, but as others have said it's good that you're ok. Keep us posted on your progress with repairs/repaint.

Paul: Glad you are OK!
Sides of these cars are the weakest area of paint.
I'll send an e-mail your way.
Good luck!!!

Sorry about your Marauder, but i'm glad it appears to be nothing really serious. Uninsured drivers really frickin piss me off, and is one of the reasons why car insurance costs so much in some area's. These random checks that our state is doing, is not doing enough to get these people off the road. OH has one of the higher rates of uninsured drivers, as only 60-65% of registered drivers are insured in a study that was done 3 years ago. What's scarier, is what about those who arn't registered who are driving illegally! I've been lucky driving around this zoo when i'm at work, but many of my coworkers have not been so fortunate. Interesting enough, my coworkers total 7 accidents(they were not at fault in any of them) in the last 2 years, and EVERY SINGLE F-ING one was with a uninsured driver, with 2 of them trying to flee the seen of the accident. The last one was my boss who got sideswiped by some ***** who ran a red light, leaving him with a pretty good concussion, who was uninsured and fled the seen of the accident leaving him unconcious. She was caught later by a bystander who saw it and wrote down her license plate. It turned out that her license was already suspended from another wreck for driving without insurance.

I think they are so large they may have their own gravitation field and they just suck in these other cars thus causing all these collisions.
At first I thought it was because of all that body mass causing the gravitational fields, but if that was true you'd have all sorts of large SUVs flying off the road... hey wait a minute...
Sorry to hear about your mess, Paul. Hope it gets taken care of to your satisfaction. Any details on the offending turd... er, driver? Please be graphic.

Paul:
Allow me to join the growing list of well-wishers...I know how much it hurts when your pride and joy gets damaged, ESPECIALLY if it's by someone else, and even MORE especially if it's by a moron...
june: I agree with you 110%...I hate uninsured/unlicensed drivers almost as much as I hate drunk drivers...I don't understand why the state doesn't just confiscate their cars and tell them they lose...MA is the KING of repeat offenders...I've heard stories of people with as many as 18 arrests...AND THEY'RE STILL ON THE ROAD!

I have an appointment with a very reputable Mercury Dealer this afternoon, seems like they are already to commence repairs. Progressive has already approved them, if it's to my liking.

That's one of the things I like so much about Progressive. They don't dick you around and will always get to work to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible to get your situation resolved. If any politician runs that has a solid plan to eliminate uninsured and unregistered motorists, they'll get my vote for sure, even if they are a democrat, or even worse a member of a bastard party like the green...........

In the shop being repair withNEW parts as we speak. Junehan is correct on his assessment of Progressive. Adjuster man walked down the side of the car saying new, new, new, new. I said "I guess I'll have to go buy a new badge." He said, " That's an Explorer v8 badge right? I'll make sure you get a new one put no." Mod friendly (okay, only cosmetic, but still a mod) insurance people. To Progressive, I say big

I can't release our private studies on this issue, but Mac and I have U.L. reports which conclusively prove that the Mac 'N Marty Enterprises Retro badges ward off collissions with other vehicles. Not a single vehicle with our badges has had an accident. How can you beat results like that? You may want to get a set ordered for your car. From what I hear, they may be available agains soon.
