A Trilogy'd Marauder with a J-mod!!! YEEEEE Haaaaa!!! :burnout:
Did J-mod on trans today. Took about 2.5 hours taking my time following instructions. After doing your 1st the job could be done in 1.5 hour, maybe even less.
Very easy simple mod any MM owner can do who has any mechanical apptitude.
I ordered a Racing HP 4R70W Super Tuf seperator plate. It is thicker to prevent the cracking problem from being hammered by 1-2 actuator piston.
Cost:
$24 for seperator plate
$4 for gasket 1
$3 for gasket 2
Filter Kit
10 qts ATF
This is a must do for performance car lovers and one of the cheapest mods!
J-mod FTW! :bows:

Took for drive after doing the jmod and when doing WOT when hits 2nd MM broke the tires loose and spun em a bit. Way fun! Trilogy canned tune didn't do that.
I also like the quicker engagement of reverse. Drove me nuts putting car in reverse and being able to go have lunch andf return when the gear finally engaged. Much better now! :D

These instructions are spot on except for the location of the small plastic screen that falls out when valve body is removed. It goes in the RF corner, not RR as stated in instructions: http://www.crownvic.net/tech/4R70Wnotes.pdf (http://www.crownvic.net/tech/4R70Wnotes.pdf)
I drilled #7 to 1/8" also which was in the instructions for older transmissions.
I did the #10 for reverse as the gear delay with OEM drove me nuts.
Have fun, I enjoyed doing the procedure.
The results are great!

What's the easiest/best way to access the tranny? Front or side?
I have a small floor jack but its a 2 ton. I've used to change oil with. Tires etc. but no jackstands. Is it safe to use to be up under the car for that long trying to take the plate down?

You'll need better access than that.
Jack stands are cheap. Pick up 2 pair so you can get car completely off ground so you can have access all around trans.
I use 2 pair of the larger truck ones as they are more stable and can get car higher off ground. Got at Farm & Fleet on sale for $29 pair (reg $39). Even reg price is cheap enough to not screw around with out them.
Never, ever, ever, ever, go under a car w/o a stand. For any reason, not even oil change. Put something under car, even cinder block, anything. Jacks slip from the sideways angle the car is pressing on the jack (like when your foot slips on ice & squirts out from under you). If you have never seen what it looks like when a car falls on someone, believe me, you don't want to see it let alone be the one under the car.
Have fun with the project!

I usually put something under the car. Never just under there with nothing. I will get stands or ramp. I may try to tackle this tomorrow If i can gather stands or something. Anything have to be torqued down to a particular lb?

Yes, you'll need an inch/lb torque wrench to torque plate bolts & valvebody bolts to 90 in/lbs.

Another tool I don't have.
I picked one up a while back at Sears fairly cheap. Think it was around $40.
If you are truely going to wrench as a pro, get used to having to buy tools. Make a tool allowance part of your budget.
I worked in auto field and semi's. Got around $75,000 to $80,000 tools in my garage. What sucks is some are obselete and will never use again. Oh well, it's the cost of the career choice & earning a good buck in it.

I do need to build my tools up.
Another thing. My car has 146xxx on her. I don't know If its ever had a trans flush or service. Is it ok to actually perform the jmod? Should I use fresh fluid or just replace the old if I do?
Trans shifts fine and firm. Only problem is the locking and unlocking at the feather of the pedal at 60 or above the owner told me about an I do notice it. Kind of aggravating

If fluid is still red & not turning brown you should have no problems. New fluid & filter. With that mileage I personally would not flush it. You'll be adding 8ish qts (deep pan 10 qts) of new fluid doing the jmod. That will be a good start. Replace pan with one that has a drain plug or install a plug in your pan while it's off. Then when you change oil, also drain 4/5 qts ATF & add new. Trans will go another 146k.

How much does this modded J improve the shifts? Will it feel like it did when I got my Lidio tune? (big improvement over stock, J-mod=big improvement over tune shifts)
This is one of those thing that sounds good but not at the top of the list if you know what I mean.

Old stuff I have is auto related, my class 8 stuff is current.
The jmod increases the actual hydrolic flow by increasing the hole diameter to the clutch. The tune helps by increasing pressure but is no comparison to the jmod. For example when 2nd hits, the engagement breaks the tires loose again. Jmod = dumping clutch when speed shifting manual trans.
