View Full Version : Chicagoland get together

Wags
12-11-2002, 09:14 AM
Now that there are a few more Marauder's running around the Chicagoland area, would anyone be interested in getting together some weekend for breakfast, lunch, or some bar? It would be nice to put faces together with the screen names, and to bull$**@ about how we just turned a 9 sec 1/4 mile! I think that it would be fun.

Ok, so now that we have some interest, where and when is a good time for everyone? I know that mensrea, bozobill, and myself are within a few miles of each other. Where would others be coming from? Also, any SS people out there are more than welcome to join us.

Maybe Oakbrook Mall is central enough and easy to get too?

Any Tues/Wed works for me, and any day after 3 PM...

MarauderBoy
12-13-2002, 10:16 AM
Oak Brook isn't a bad central spot and there is a Denny's on 22nd st. The downside is that the entire area is swarming with shoppers making travel very frustrating.

Slowpoke
12-13-2002, 10:47 AM
I'm downtown; Oak Brook is doable, but a haul. I guess I'll just have to get on the highway and DRIVE there! (I will need directions to wherever it will be)

A good time would be on a Sunday morning - 10am - 12 ???

Ok, now that we might have a place that is pretty good for everyone, does everyone want to wait until after the holiday rush, or sometime sooner? Weekend or weeknight?

Slowpoke
12-13-2002, 11:48 AM
weekend is better for me. if after holidays, Sat or Sun. If before holidays (my preference), Sunday only.

Okay...There's five of us from Chicagoland responding here, and 4 of us are basically south and southwest suburbs (sorry SlowPoke, I don't know where in Chgo you're from), so, may I suggest...

White Fence Farm in Romeoville? I-55 to Rt. 53, south on Rt. 53 about a mile to Joliet Rd. Turn left, (N/B) at this light, 1 block down on your left.

BIG parking lot, closed Mondays, open every other day from 4 Pm to 8 PM. Best dayum chicken anywhere, come hungry, bring the family, it's family style. Offer good until 31 Dec., then they close until spring.

Just a thought, since it's silly to fight Xmas crowds, or, try to predict weather...

BTW, where is Mensrea? Tried to e-mail him through here, but it's blocked. Hope someone clues him in.

I presume everyone from this sight is welcome, don't have to be an MM owner, right?

Just trying to get this rolling, more suggestions are appreciated.

I am downtown Chicago. Think of the Ferris Wheel. I live in that general area. There's no place to really meet in the downtown area and an willing to drive a distance as long as it's not too far or on a weekday.

smith5365
12-13-2002, 02:43 PM
Prefer weekends so I can bring my buddy (mechanic) with me when he's off work. We'd fly in on the red-eye, spend the day and head back home. Anywhere in Chicagoland is fine. I still go back often enough that I know the places your have suggested so far. If weekends don't work out then I'll come alone. After the holidays works best for me. Between my wife's Christmas shopping and visits to her doctors (she's having painful reactions to a knee replacement), I'm running continuously 'til after the first of the year.

Anyone who wishes to contact me regarding this topic, I can be reached by telephone this Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 14/15 only) from 6 Am to 2 PM, Chicago time. Call me at 312.745.5207, ask for Sergeant Mac.

Bill Smith, let me know if I can help in any way. If you fly into Midway, I can help out with hotel stuff and directions to wherever we end up by then.

SlowPoke, I'm at 3510 S. Michigan, stop in if you're in the area?

smith5365

SargntMac: Thank you for the offer!! My miles are on United so I'll use award ticket and fly into O'Hare. I'll pick up car and probably stay with relatives if I decide to stay overnight. My buddy usually can't be gone more the 36 hours. However, if my wife decides to come too, we'll send my buddy back here, and probably stay for a week or more at wife's sister's in Gurnee. Just hope the weather stays somewhat decent. Driving from the west side out Congress(my era)/Eisenhower to Tri-states, and then up to Gurnee in freezing rain is why I now live in SoCal. Thanks again.

Mensrea!

You need to e-me your writeback addy, bud! Drop that to me at "SergntMac@aol.com" and it will go no further, promise. Or, call me Sat. or Sun., 6 AM to 2 PM @ 312.745.5207, we gotta talk.

Seems the big draw in this meet, may be your MM, would be nice to see her, for all of us. Bill Smith may be flying in from So. Cal. just for this treat. No pressure now, only if you want to be there, but give us a hint when that bad girl may be available for group feel-ups?

Nite, all, be safe.

PS. to Bill Smith...I still call it "Congress Parkway," I watched them dig that big ditch from first scratch. Welcome home.

As an alternative to White Fence and closer to Chicago is Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket in Willow Brook at Rt 83 and I55, Big parking lot not overly crowded and away from the crowds of the holiday. Very friendly and kinda RT66 retro in a MM sorta way.

I like the way this is shaping up and hope we can get our own Chicagolandf club out of this.

SergntMac
12-14-2002, 06:19 AM
We're not nailed down yet, in location or date/time. More ideas are welcome, speak up!

MarauderBoy...Isn't there a Patio BBQ in that general area ? And a Home Run Inn somewhere around there too? I'm just thinking about places that are easy to get to from major roads, and avoid the holiday shopping crush as well.

smith5365
12-14-2002, 08:18 AM
The weekend between Christmas and New Year's works for me, or any weekend in January after New Year's. But I'm the last guy who should be asking for a specific time. Oh yes, I still have my parka, snow boots, and long johns so I'm ready.

Bill Smith

MarauderBoy
12-14-2002, 10:25 AM
There is a Patio BBQ just north of Dell's on 83. I think the parking lot might be a little small. I think your right about the Home Run Inn but I believe it is off of Cass Ave.

chapel1
12-15-2002, 07:50 AM
The Home Run gets my vote.I think anyone who hasn't had thier pizza will enjoy it.Patio is great food, but the parkingis alittle tight. And you usually end up parking behind the resturant.Dell Rea is alittle quieter of a place.Parking lot isn't huge but has good visablity from the resturant. The chicken is cooked to order and takes awhile to get there.Dell would be my second choice although I'm not familiar with that paticular Home Run Inn's parking lot.

Slowpoke

Wow, it's nice to see many people responding to this. The question is, if there are so many Marauders in the area, how come I still have only seen one driving around? The 5th is good for me. I've got a little something special for all who are attenting the informal Chicago gettogether. It is something we all "need" for our cars and is a "perfect fit". I am not telling what it is, but I created it, manufactured it, and will give it out FREE to all Chicago folks who attend. It wont make your car go any faster or look any stealthier, but it's the perfect finishing touch.

Anyone care to guess?

Just an update...

Who: Anyone reading this.
What: Chicagoland MM owner's meet.
When: Sunday, January 5th, '03, 1200 hrs. Noon.
Where: http://www.route66.com/DellRheasChicken/
(see "driections" page @ this site for map)
Why: Well why not? Come one, come all, and come hungry.

Anyone needing more info, call me at my office. 312.745.5207, 6 Am to 2 PM, ask for Sgt. Mac.

Gollygee...10-20 black sedans in one obsecure parking lot on a quiet Sunday afternoon, screams for media attention. Look pretty boys and girls, we may have company.

If LM won't advertise the MM, we can.

Be safe, and Happy Holidays.

Oh...one more thing. Willowbrook Police use a black/white scheme, so, don't get way-layed at the Denny's up the street.

SergntMac
12-24-2002, 03:24 AM
One more thing...

Dell Rhea's is located on real "old Route 66." It's now a frontage road to I-55 here, but that's close enough for government work, and still real for some in a spiritual sense.

Sentimental, I know, but if you own one of these black beauties, you know what I mean.

oh Mensrea, where art thou?

MAD-3R

The 'something special' will be available to all people on this board at a very very small cost [think under $5, including postage!]; I did not join this board to sell stuff nor make a profit; in fact, I only decided to make this 'item' after noting a need for it once I used the MM for a few weeks. The most time consuming part was to create the god's head logo which is part of the 'item'. I got the typeface down, its Adobe Helvetica Neue Medium Italic Oblique.

I wait until January 5th only because it will take time to produce these and I want some feedback from people who will use the 'item' right away so that I may modify it before showing to everyone.

If you want to drive yourself nuts, sit in your car, look all around, and take note on what's missing. Can YOU figure it out? And NO, it is not an inflatable Pamela Anderson to sit next to you! Go ahead, write me a note if you figure it out...

Have a spectacular Holiday!!

Slowpoke
12-25-2002, 11:10 AM
not a decal; in fact, it does not adhere to any surface nor hang from any surface. I do use adhesive as a part of the manufacturing process.

you guys are lucky!

Why?

because today I went to visit the wife's relatives waaaaay out in the SW suburbs and lo and behold, we passed a huge billboard for the Chicken Basket. Now that I know where it is, you can be sure I will be there toting some free custom-made MM goodies for y'all!

The wife and I tested the prototypes and we decided to make it a little larger. You will get to pick from a small version and a larger version. Still don't know what 'it' is?? That's OK....You will on Jan 5th!

Not tennis balls either...

I just finished making 144 of them. I think the price will be $5 for two delivered. Half of the cost goes for the postage and for the padded envelope! Materials & labor make up the balance.

Attendees at the Chicago MM Gathering get them for free!

As Logan said, and I quote...

"Wow, that's a pretty neat idea. I like it. I'd appreciate a couple too, but otherwise consider yourself authorized to promote them as you see fit on the site."

Still keeping it a secret!

Well, thank you gentlemen...Likewise.

Made a suggestion in another thread that our next Chicagoland Owner's meet could be at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb. Pick a date/time, and meet up at the Marauder display. Imagine all those owner's jackets in one spot, the Marauder's gang has arrived.

Got another idea for little covert ops at the show. We all gather around the MM on display and distract onlookers, while slowpoke changes the badges and adds ruby red reflective decals (I have an extra set courtesy of Chapel1). Wouldn't that give LM something to think about on their way home, hehe...JK.

Jeeze...Is this the longet thread ever, or what?

Oh, and I wasn't "holding court." I was hoping for a fast crap game before lunch, but it was too sloppy out.

Auto Show...any thoughts?

Hmm, the Marauder's gang

You know, Mercury is losing out on not capitalising on all this to boost sales

Hey all Windy City Marauder owners:

After spying on the mercury marauder.net, I finally got around to registering.

My wife and I were the ones who got to Dell Rhea's late. Better late than never. It was nice to see another Marauder besides my own (mine was the black one:D). Other than that, I've only spotted one other Marauder on the road.

Any plans in the works for another get together?

Harold

There was some talk about getting together at the Chicago car show but evryone is having a problem meeting on the same weekend (15th/16th or 22nd/23rd).

I'll be there on the 22nd and Sarg is going to be there in the 15th.

Darn I am not going to be able to blow his doors off with my stock MM.

I'm under the weather right now, Bill, not sure I will make it at all, but I'll check in here if I am headed that way.
