View Full Version : Blend Door Actuator Failure and Repair--"A Biotch ( aka--all heat or all cold air!!)

OK , This is in regard to what the subject says---

When you turn to desire heat inside or cold air and you get just the opposite--well, its because the subject part failed--no warning--you just get none!!

Thanks to fastblackmerc (Jim), who I contacted, he gave me a way to tell if that is the problem.

Per his instructions:

1. Press and HOLD the Floor and Automatic Button the same time within 2 sec.

A tracer will appear running in circles on your center screen and may run for about 10-30 seconds. When is finished if it displays a DTC ( Diagnostic Trouble Code) write it down. If it is " 0 2 4 "--Yep-- That is the part that has shorted or just quit working.

Now knowing whats wrong and fixing whats wrong are major differences!!

The part ( which cost $75 itself) is located inside the dash upper right side behind the passenger air bag and duct which is basically just beneath where the windshield and dash meet.

This is why the Dealers charge so much to repair --somewhere probably between $600 to $900 + just for the labor most likely---[B]SINCE BASICALLY THE INTERIOR DASH HAS TO BE TAKEN APART OR OUT TO REACH THE BROKEN PART![B] due to the time and labor to achieve this feat!

So yesterday , I arrived at fastblackmerc's home and Jim began the order to achieve the impossible I thought-- after 1/2 day the part was replaced and all works perfect!

Actually , about every part of the dash was apart and laying everywhere inside and outside of the car--looked like a wreck inside a body shop!!

Afterwards , and back together, Jim says--" Whoops, got an extra screw left over!!"---Of course kidding after having seen my jaw dropped to the ground in fun--

I will say this, Jim is without a doubt the finest guy/ friend anyone could have . The guy is incredible with his ability to solve and repair things on our MM.

Don't know if he wants to tackle this kind of job again, but you would have to ask him---Know this, it will save you at least half or more than the dealer or others--It was a biotch and that is not even close--

So in closing--you now know what may be the problem, how to find out specifically and the fix--- who and where to fix it--well that's a whole nother problem.

I was watching a show on the Velocity channel & there was a commercial for an easier fix for the HVAC blend door problem on most cars, www.heatertreater.net, but they do not have any of the Panther platform cars listed on their application chart. :censor: :( Nevertheless, this website has some useful information.

Just looked at their site and their repair will not fix the blend door issue we have.

Their fix is to replace the bend door.

Our problem is with the blend door actuator.

If you do their fix you will still have the problem.

Watch the video. Our blend door has a metal pivot.

I just realized its 2 different issues, and it explains why their application chart doesn't list the CV, GM, TC & MM. You're right FBM.

My vent air just went full hot. I'll go check the trouble codes per the above recommendation.

Is there a step-by-step reference thread on here somewhere? Any Marauder experts in California San Francisco bay area for hire? Possibly this could be within my skill level. Free time I am less sure.

I've already changed the lighting control module relays, HVAC control O-rings, and ignition coils. I guess I'm going to go through the whole list of Marauder weaknesses . . .

Any tips or advice are welcome.

I've tried holding down the "floor" and "automatic" buttons simultaneously without result.

How do I run the self-test so I may somewhat confirm the problem before buying a blend door actuator and tearing my dash apart?

Edit: got it to run - hold down floor and off simultaneously, then release and immediately press automatic.

I am getting code 025, and apparently no other codes.

025 Intermittent fault in blend door calibration.

I hope this helps lifespeed. :)

An 024 or 025 code is blend door actuator. The P/N is XW7Z-19E616-BA (YH-1766). Good Luck with the install.

Thanks, I found that 024 was the always broken code and 025 was the intermittent version. Coincidentally, my blend door has gone back to working again.

By now I know this car's HVAC system well enough to know that it still needs to be replaced, otherwise it will go full hot as I'm driving through the Mojave desert in August :sunshine:

$48 from my favorite mail-order dealership, Silver State Ford. I'll grab a serpentine belt and a few oil filters with anti-drainback valve as long as they're shipping stuff to my house. The local stealership wanted $88. I'm not sure what this says about the business environment in California, but it can't be good . . . :(

Tracy Ford charged me $810 in labor.

My blend door would go out then work again. And so on. Finally, it just didn't work. So I finally had to get the repair done last year. Didn't want to attempt it myself so took it to the stealership.

Holy Cr*p!

I'd feel bad charging someone half that.

If anyone can get their car to me for a day, I will replace the blend door actuator for $375.00 (includes a new Ford replacement part).
