I would highly advise you to buy genuine ford axles from Tousley or Tasca Ford, the Dorman ones dont have a groove for an o-ring IIRC

I have FORD 31 splines. They're holding up great in my car.

Quite a few people on here have snapped the moser 31 splines.

Don't know too much about the dorman axles.

And with the ford axles you don't have to worry about the ABS ring.

LOL say what you like about the Mosers, but there excellent axles, the reason for the few that failed was the wrong machining process after heat treating!

Which Moser has long since corrected, and speaking of failures how many "soft" axles did Ford release knowing full well they would prematurely fail! again due to improper heat treating!

Ford also corrected the problem, i also had a set of Moser axles in my buick which made 1072 RWHP! think any ford axle could handle that:confused:

I've heard of at least one case regarding 31's not allowing the parking break assembly to fit. I do not know of the brand unfortunately. I do know that the Fords fit fine.

This is why I went with the ford axles. DIRECT FIT!

No issues. Just slap em on and go! :burn:

And it was the early 03's that had the soft axle issue and those were the 28 splines not 31 splines.

I don't have a problem with mosers. I was just stating FACTS.

A local C.A.M member here snapped 2 moser axles on the street! And he wasn't even racing the car.

The guys name is Jim. He had a Reinhart vortec S/C marauder.

Like I said bro, just stating the facts.

He went back & forth with moser and they finally made it right. This happened the same time zack snapped his moser axle at the track!

Your correct Doom, that was during the time that Moser thought it would be a good idea to machine the Axle flange after heat treating! a BIG no no!:mad2:

They learned from that epic fail!

Good to know as my Mosers took a dump too and they are telling me it could be a bent axle housing - not. These were from the group buy a few years ago but heck you would think they would last longer that they did. I put new saver bearings on last year to try to get more life out of them but that didn't last long

What exactly happened to your set:confused:

The bearing wore right through the axles, clearly they were not heat treated correctly.

I was trying to use replacement 31 spline axles (not Dorman) from Rock Auto on my MM, but had an interference issue with the parking brake. Installed Ford 31 spline shafts and still had the same problem, so I left the whole plate assembly off.

The Rock Auto shafts were from an East coast direct ship manufacturer (NJ?), and didn't have the small o-ring in the c-clip groove, but the Ford shafts did.

I removed the whole assembly and pressure washed it. The fine particles from a bearing failure are very difficult (impossible?) to remove without a complete tear-down.

I went with an Eaton Detroit Locker, but wish I would have used their TrueTrac instead. It is exponentially easier to pull a shaft/c-clip with the DL than with the stupid spring in the OEM clutch differential.
