Hello there! My oldest son, who is 18, has aspirations to become famous! Currently, he is studying mass communications at our local community college. A couple of summers ago, we sent him to Second City. Second city is located in Chicago and is a learning center for aspiring comedians and actors. He'd like to return in the summer of 2013 to attend some training classes yet again. Would anyone have any suggestions as to where he could look for employment, and places to stay for the summer? He'd be there for the summer and most likely be attending classes throughout the day, so he'd need a job at a restaurant where he could work evenings and weekends. Currently he attends college and works at a seafood carryout doing prep work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I guess it would depend on where he would be taking classes. Is he taking classes at a school, or at Second City or both? I'm guessing he will not have a car. So El-train, bus and two shoe express would be needed.

So where would his classes be?

Good question! He would exclusively be taking classes at second city.
And since I don't pay a lot of attention when my wife is speaking to me, there's more...it looks like he will finish this semester of college here, work throughout the next semester, and plan on continuing at second city, thus foregoing continuation of school until a later time. I don't know if I necessarily agree with this, but he is 18 and is doing very well with studies...it's hard to say no when his grades are good and the effort is there even though he knows he wants to go in a different direction.

I'd sure like to help, but I'm southside and Second City is north side.....my nephews friend live on the northside...I'll get in touch with them for any info that might help such as employment and lodging....if he is an aspiring comedian, he could start his career by buying GM stock and a Chevy Volt...LOL...sorry, couldn't help it

there are dozens of restaurants within walking distance of Second City and there would most likely be a ton of open rental units as many colege students from DePaul, Loyola, Northwestern etc will be back at home for the summer, maybe he can sublet.

I knew you all would be helpful! Thank you:) There is plenty of time for Scott to plan his future out, and my wife and I will be helping to guide him to the right decisions for him. It seems that so far he has given it plenty of thought, and is willing to work hard to achieve his goals. I'm proud of him whether or not he becomes famous, it's the effort he's willing to put forth to get there.
