4" Tip Installation "Standard"?

I didn't want to hijack the Mike's (MM2004) thread but I wonder about the accepted installation of 4" tips.

I thought that the install should be 1-1.5" outside of the bumper cover.

Now, his are flush or nearly so.

Now, I'm sure that you'll tell me its up to me but I was intending to do the 1-1.5".

Any suggestions/"Standards"?

Put mine on in the STOCK position.

Do whatever you think looks best to YOU.

There isn't a "standard" so-to-speak for exhaust tip installation.

It's personal preference.

IMHO, and only my opinion, extending them out further than where mine currently are, is too much for my taste.

In the 60's and 70's, that was fairly common on Hot Rods. Not so much today.

Again, do what you want as it is your car, and have fun with it!

i got my tips extneded just under and inch were u can just barely see the megs and they look and sound awesome

I've got mine somewhere near the stock position to maybe 1/2" out from stock. Keep in mind that when the exhaust system gets hot, all the piping expands, which will make your tips stick out a little more. Don't know exactly how much, but I'd guess another 1/2"...you don't want to have them sticking out too far; then you'll have to worry about bottoming out. Also, the driver's side tip will dip/hang a little lower as well...I think this anomaly has been discussed in other threads. My stock tips have some road rash on the bottom edges from PO; more on the driver's side than the other. All in all, the 4" tips look much better than stock, so you've already made a good first step...put 'em on to suit your tastes, but don't extend too far or else you might end up with road rash on 'em.

Well Mark, as you can see I'm pretty wishy-washy on this at the moment. I'm going to defer my decision until I can do some field research starting with Mike Heckman's DTR in Kentucky. This may take time and I may need to drive several Marauders. I know it sounds grueling but it has to be done. :cool: :woohoo:
