New winter wheel options

In the past I have been using 16" steelies but since I will be getting a Wilwood kit I will need to run 18".

I have several options for wheels, either 18x8 or 18x8/9/10 and put a set of winter tires on them. Wheels are $135-150 each so there really isn't one that stands out more than the other because of price since they will be just for winter use for now. I am leaving towards the 18x8 wheels since I know what tire size will fit for them.

Yeah I know, easier to do with 16 or 17" steelies but with a big brake kit, they wont work so would have to go with at least an 18".

I may go with Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Ultra+Grip+Ice+WRT) WRT 235/50-18 Front and 255/55-18 Rear.

No issue with the traction control and will be slightly thinner than my old 235/70-16 & 255/70-16 Winterforce tires.

TireRack had a $60 mail-in rebate on the winter tires and I had a 6% off code from AmericanMuscle via SVTPerformance membership plus fast free shipping. Also adding black lugs. Now I just need to get on the horn with Todd to order some Wilwoods.

The 30 mm offset wheels aren't a good idea as they will cause the front wheel bearings to wear out quicker. They will also mess with the steering by increasing the scrub radius and could cause clearance issues.

As i suggested earlier look on your local Craigslist for Mustang take offs. Around here there are sets of 18" with tires that are claimed to have 50, 70% or more tread left for $400-$450. Keep the tires when the snows are mounted and sell them on Craigslist for $200. That way you get OE quality wheels not the made in China.

If you had looked at the wheel I picked its a 44mm offset. That's why I asked about the stock offset so I could as close as possible. Wheels that are 18x9 have the 30mm offset which is already too wide for winter use for me.

That's fine if there are any take off wheels around me but whatever tires are on there I am sure they are all-season which I will not run on my car during the winter time, I will only use winter tires. Either way I would spend about the same but at least I know everything I am getting is brand new.

I liked when I had the plasti-dip on my wheels but it was a matte black. These wheels being gloss black makes a big difference and I REALLY like them. Now I just need to clean up the brakes real well since they are all rusted/weathered looking.
