View Full Version : Rims cut and welded to 11 inches

I just had my rims cut and welded to 11 inches and tried to put 295 45 18 on the rear end of the car with 1 1/2 inch spacer. The tires are scrapeing up against the rear shocks. I like the wide tire look but my mechanic (friend) said I need atleast a 1.75 spacer inorder for it to work. I could not find a 1.75 inch spacer for the Marauder. I don't think it exists. I did however find a 2 inch. Has anyone run into this problem. I just ordered it and I m waiting for it to arrive. I hope the 2 inch doesn't look ridiculous. I know it's only another .25 inches but I just don't want the tires to stick out to far. If anyone has pictures please post.

Why did you widen to 11"? Who did the weld?

I have 18x11s on the rear with a 1.5" spacer on a 30x12x18 mickey thompson street radial and no rubbing!
Before that i had a nitto 555 295/45 18 and no rubbing, are you sure your spacer is 1.5" and are you certain the wheel is exactly 11" wide?

Heres some pics when i had the 295/45 18s mounted on the 18x11s with the 1.5" spacers so i know it clears

I didn't go with weld craft. I should have checked them out before I made my decision to go with the local person. He did a good job from the looks of the rims. The local welder said he could do it, and going by what I've read from this site, 11 inches is the maximum you can go before you run into trouble.

It's possible that they might be slightly bigger than 11 inches wide. This is probably why my friend who's putting the tires on suggested a 1.75 spacer which I couldn't find. What is your opinion on putting on a 2 inch spacer. Will it make much of a difference on the way the car handles?

No it wont, but the only way you will know if you like it(the look) is to try them out, and make certain you get the hubcentric spacers

Not sure why you went so wide....

Both P305 and P295 tires are spec'd to fit 9.5" -> 11.0" rims.

I know with 9.5" widened rims, my Nitto P295's fit with room to spare and no need for any spacers.
My Nitto P305 DR's were very close the the shocks and sometimes rubbed slightly, but again...no spacers were needed.

I would expect 11" widened rims to work with 1-1/2" spacers.

Does the center bore make a difference? The ones I purchased already have a ll the same dimensions as the ones you suggested except the center bore. The center bore on the ones I purchased are 74mm compared to the 70.5mm. If it does I should try and cancel order before they ship.

To be blunt, I think that your rear wheels stick out too far.

11" widened rims and 1-1/2" spacers didn't work for woodykylite, and I wouldn't trust wide spacers on high HP cars.

A couple of questions from a newbie.

1. Do any of these cars have lowered suspensions?
2. Have any of you widened the front wheels (however little) so that a wider front tire be used?
3. What is the approximate cost of widening a wheel to 11" ?

I run Kumho 255/45R18's up front with stock wheels and zero rubbing....not lowered though!!

i run 18x10 wheels on the front with a 1" hub centric spacer on a 28x12x18 Mickey Thompson street radial, the handling of the car is second to none!

Weldcraft gets right around $450 to widen wheels and thats the only company i would let touch my wheels.

FYI...just remember that putting a spacer on DOES increase the leverage that the wheel has over the end of the axle, axle tube and the wheel bearing...

Thats what makes your spacer hub centric, the Marauders center bore on the hub is 70.5mm it should fit over the hub like a glove making the wheel centric to the hub, this is what keeps your wheel centered on the hub, and no vibration!

I would send back what you have and get the right ones in the link i provided

It's not just the spacer but also how the wheel was widened.

I think the first thing you need to do is find out exactly how wide your wheels are, and that will determine what size spacer you need, ive been running spacers on different projects since 1988 so i think i may have a clue!

Stock wheels are 18x8 a 295 will work on a stock width wheel, but forget about a 305, you really need to get them widened if you want a tire that wide

My 295 DR's on 9.5 rims ever so slightly rub the paint on the monroe severe duty shocks. I moved all the spacers on the bottom of the shock to the outside and gained a tiny little hair of room. Maybe another difference between your cars is the brand of shocks?

OK, I'm in the middle of this same project. On my 300A, I have ordered my rear tires already... I went with the 305/45/18 NT555R. Got a good deal on them $233.00 each. No freight, Now I'm going to order the fronts sometime next week. But I'm not sure if I should have Weildcraft do the wheel mod. Or get other wheels? I was looking at these and was wondering if anyone new if they would fit? 31684 I'm pretty sure the God Head center caps would fit. And being a 03 SVT Wheel why not. That wheel is a 18"x10.5" And all in all, they would cost me about the same. As having the stock wheels modified and powder coated.

The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low co$t is forgotten.

What is the max dimension tire, if they make it, all season, that you can fit on an 18x11 inch rim with oem's in the front? Where could you find them. Nitto has a racing tire but I live in Boston, Ma and need something with some tread on it. Any tire website recommendations would be helpful and what dimensions would work because I know you don't want tires that are too short or too tall.

What would the other dimension be for a 315 width tire on a 18 inch rim and the rim is 11 inches wide. I want to go with a 315 width tire since I made the rims 18x11. I guess the middle number is the dimension I'm looking for which is the height. I am keeping the OEM's in the front. This the issue I have now. The 2 inch spacer will keep the tires from scrapeing up against the shocks. I guess what im trying to say is what would be the best height to make 315 width tire work on 18 inch rims?
