The Marauder is nearly at 100K miles. It has been a great trip so far.

With the goal of making it close to 200K on the same engine/trans I am considering the following engine maintenance items (suspension will also be done):

Timing set
water pump
idler pulley and tensioner
fuel pump and filter

Already replaced:
ignition coils and spark plugs

Anything I should add or remove from the list?

WHY the timing set? High dollar parts and labor. With good oil changes I have inspected many engines with 100k and the tensioner / guides looked fine. Water pump easy to do so ok on that.

i wouldnt touch anything internal in the engine unless there is a problem, I had around 175k on my first mm when i sold it. It ran great, I still see it from time to time.

Getting a little noise at startup. I have seen 2V engines that showed moderate wear at 100K. I switched to a Motorcraft filter with anti-drainback valve so hopefully that helps. Basically it just seems the engine is noisier than it used to be, and I know these components wear.

It may be the timing chain and guides won't fail tomorrow, but I also think it is true that it has plenty of stretch and wear after 100K. If it is going to have to be changed at some point I may as well benefit from new components for the next 100K, rather than run it looser and looser and just pat myself on the back and say "It hasn't failed yet, but it sure is getting noisy"

Timing components are generally considered preventative maintenance items for most any engine with this amount of mileage. At internet dealer prices it is under $400 in parts to replace all the timing, and under $700 with the water pump and tensioners.

Admittedly the labor is signficant.

Have an oil analysis done, $30. If something is out of range have it done a second time to verify.

Curious,
Why did you replace your coil packs?

Misfiring. The original units were flawed, Ford has an updated part.

J-Mod will prolong the life of transmission clutch packs and regular oil and filter changes will keep the engine going!!

FORD used to engineer vehicles to go 300K miles......mine engine is currently at 243,xxx and rockin' on!! :bows: BTW, the last 159K have been supercharged!!:D

I boogered up my pinion bearing and put new bearing and axles in at 170K......rebuilt the trans at 166K I think??

J-mod to the trans is good, although I think a line pressure increase with reprogramming might be good enough.

I did all new bearings, 31 spline axles and a new limited slip at 96K. Axles and bearings were making a bit of a rumble.

Maybe I should let it get closer to 140K before considering replacing the front of the motor for maintenance.

Good advice.

Line pressure increase will effectively make the clutch packs and shifts happen faster at the expense of the pump......high pressure means more wear??

Rear axle should be fine then......my Trac-Loc was still in spec at rebuild so we left it....still does "2 Stripes" at 243K miles......musta gotten a good one??

What are you going to replace on the front of the motor and why??
