It seems that I cant post on the other bcm thread, so I figure here we go...
After almost a year of it working from tapping it with a screwdriver, it finally took a crap. I pulled it out yesterday with some cursing, swearing, and luck and added some solder around the bad solder joint, plugged it back in and it seems to be working. I didnt have the time to reinstall it. Took about an hour to pull it out...hoping it goes back in easier. Wish me luck..

Just a heads-up, I bought a Standard Motor Products BCM unit that was defective right out of the box. Only max speed worked. The real crime is this caused me to buy a $300 recon EATC. When that didn't fix it, I bought an OEM motor control (which didn't cost any more than the SMP junk) and everything was fine.

If I was a cynical person, I would think they are using the "no electronics returns" policy as a cover for letting quality control become non-existent.

Too bad you didn't join here before you did all that. We could have saved you a boatload of money.

When my bcm started acting up, I decided to purchase a rebuilt one from Jim, aka fastblackmerc.

Works and blows better than ever. Thanks Jim.

If you're thinking of the cold solder joint issue, it was not that easy. I resoldered BCM#1, and it gave me fan, but max speed all the time. BCM#2 had fine solder joints, max speed only, but i could turn it on and off. BCM#3 worked, so I didn't check the joints.
