I dumped a can of Seafoam in my gas tank this morning before I filled the tank with gas. I noticed there is a slot inside the filler tube, to the side of the flap where the filler nozzle goes.

When I dump Seafoam in there, it seems like a fair amount would end up going through the slot, and not past the flap. Where does the slot go? The tank? A fume-catcher canister?

Perhaps I should be using a funnel for this...

It drains back into the filler neck and then into the tank. Yes you should use a funnel.

The entire opening goes down into the tank. What you're seeing is a restrictor plate that is government mandated to prevent inserting anything other than an unleaded petrol nozzle.

That's kinda what my ex-wife had too! Just alittle different though :P

The slots are there so gas doesn't get on the ground if you overfill.

They are vents to evacuate the tank as you fill it but the SeaFoam does get to the tank through them....better to use a funnel though!!
