View Full Version : Little bit of white smoke on acceleration

As the title says, I'm getting a little white smoke from both pipes on acceleration. It only seems to do it when accelerating onto the highway. Not under normal stop and go traffic apparently.

Any thoughts? 144k miles, 2003 300A/B car... Always taken care of and oil changed every 3500 miles with Motorcraft synthetic blend oil.

Thanks!

Its a machine, it will wear out eventually....sounds like you have some blow by...are you having to add oil between oil changes?

Blue smoke usually means oil, white smoke often indicates coolant; are you having to top off the cooling system? Are you seeing any evidence of coolant in your oil?

Have a friend drive behind you, with open windows and open it up. See if your friend can smell oil, a popcorn-like smell or fuel. Could just be a rich on wot tune.

You need to trade in that Cash for Clunker of yours before it leaves you stranded then.

Haven't had to add any oil and haven't noticed any coolant in the oil when I change it. Nor any other leaks. Maybe the smoke was grayish.. My brother was following me when he noticed it.

I know cars eventually start to wear down, but I'd just like to know I'm not about to have a catastrophic failure that I might be able to prevent...

DOOM, I wouldn't consider THAT kind of smoke much of a problem.... :burnout:

That highway shot could be a bit of excess fuel at the moment it went WOT or just clearing a bit of soot out of the exhaust system, I wouldn't be worrying about it...

Given that I'm on my phone and sound quality sucks....that sounds like a rattle from the exhaust. If that's the case, and the "smoke" is gray.....it may not be smoke. It may be one or both rear cats coming apart (which happens more often than thought) which would cause the noise and cause a grayish most of powder from the exhaust. Then again, this is just my "phone" opinion!

Probably running a lil rich. How many miles are on your o2's?

Interesting..

The O2s are stock. So 144k on them. Haven't ever had the check engine light come on so I never thought to change them...

If it is rich, I am still running about an average of 20mpg with a mix of highway and city driving... I've wanted a tune since I bought the car.. Maybe this will be the excuse I need....
