Ok, here is the situation. In talking to Zolton (and a couple of other members), we discussed the idea of conducting another Marauderville here. We had a great time with Marauderville IV here in Orlando, Florida and had a super turnout. 80 MM.NET people, around 50 cars +-.
So we are thinking about putting in a bid (due by December 1st) to have it here again next year. I have the time to write it up prior to the due date and put together another great time here in the Sunshine State. What to you all think?

Like it and am willing to help. One of my accounts is Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. They are converting the steak restaurant/meeting room into an oyster bar/seafood restaurant with view of the Intracoastal. Just one of thousands of places.
If too far south, Daytona offers some great rides. Would be willing to call some associates to try to arrange drives around the track like we did in Charlotte.

I would love for this to happen. I would like to help with something. I can help a bit with daytona. I go there pretty often to see the inlaws. Lots and lots to do there centered around automobiles.
I do however think that Daytona/ Orlando or as far North as Jax would be best suitable for attracting more of a crowd from the north and mid west.

Yeah, I am up for Florida since I spent MV IV in the hospital. :o
If this happens, I will again be looking into the "Auto Train" departing out of Lorton, VA for at least the southbound trip. May also try to double this up with a visit to Universal Studios and/or Disney World.
Anybody want to try the party train from Northern Virginia?

The AMTRAK Auto Train only works if MV11 is in Florida. The train departs at 4:00 PM from Lorton, VA and arrives in Sanford, FL (near Orlando) the next morning at 9:30 AM. Vehicles are carefully loaded into special train cars. Passengers can book reserved coach seats, sleeper roomettes, Family or Superliner Rooms.
Saves 900 miles driving, 15 hours or so in the driver's seat, and about $180.00 in gas (so the car basically rides free, see below)
Costs estimated for September 2013 (2 people):
1. Two reserved coach seats = $200.00 (meals included)
2. One car = $175.00
3. Total = $375.00
or $511.00 with Sleeper Roomette (meals included).
or $622.00 with Family Room (meals included)
or $682.00 with Superliner Room (meals included)
Optional:
a. Sleeper Roomette 3' 6" by 6' 6" (2 seats fold down for sleeping) add $136.00. Good for 2 adults. Restrooms and showers down the hall.
b. Family Room 5' 2" by 9' 5" (private room) add $247.00. Good for 2 adults + 2 children. Restrooms and showers down the hall.
c. Superliner Room 6' 6" by 7' 6" (private room with toilet & shower) add $307.00. Good for 2 adults.

What's the next step, Tom, to submitting a bid for the Sunshine State Chapter?
I've thought of a few more Daytona activities - dragster and go kart racing at Speed Park, dog racing at the newly renovated DB Kennel Club, golf scramble, St Augustine winery, and more.
As I have a lot of relationships with hoteliers in this market, I can start getting group rate quotes.

I will have a better handle on this next week. We also need a dragstrip fairly close by. I will be working on the proposal next week, will have more questions for everyone and see what would work out best for SSM as well as the MM.NET community to make it worth coming here for all. We did this for Marauderville IV and believe this is not an easy task.

The train makes no other station stops along the way. Get on at Lorton, VA (20 miles south of Washington, DC) and get off at Sanford, FL (20 miles north of Orlando, FL) or vice versa. No mid-point options.

Nothing wrong with a hike! If this happens there will be people driving 10 hours to get here. Whats another hour and a half. We can make an entire track day, since we probably have the state with the biggest amount of fast cars why not show it off.

There are some really nice hotels that cater to large groups in the middle of the state - Mount Dora area, Howey-in-the-Hills, Destin, etc that would make a good base for day trips to Daytona and Gainesville.

And for other activities there are ton of state parks and natural springs up in that part of florida. Some great feshwater dive spots, and St Augustine is great for touristy stuff.

I'm seeing a lot of chatter about water sport type things. While that's fine, keep in mind a good % of us are not in the greatest of shape or would be comfortable in a bathing suit outside of our own tub. I would limit swimming type activities to a minimum or I would have an alternative activity for those who choose to keep clothing on. JM2Cents.:)

While there are lots of water sports to do, don't include Silver Springs in it. The have a boat ride that if you get in the water you will have the Gators hanging besides you.lol
Also there is a jeep ride around its little private jungle. The place is like a small zoo.
Be prepared to see a ton of jacked up truck and people wearing Florida Gators clothing.

Actually, Tom, I'm thrilled to see the level of interest and some good old-fashioned competition, because no matter who ends up receiving the bid, the membership is the real winner as they're going to end up with a top notch venue and program regardless of location.
I know I'm going to enjoy myself no matter where MV11 lands.

Hi all,
Here are a couple of links. One to the Silver Springs site and one to the Holiday Inn Express just across the street. Also, one for the Don Garlits Museum.

And for anyone that would happen to be passing through Pensacola, FL on the way you could take a break from the trip and check out the National Museum of Naval Aviation aboard the Pensacola Naval Air Station: http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/ .

I do a trip to the Orlando area every year around mid October with one of my buddies from school. We drive down from CT and if this all pans out, we could do both in the same trip potentially. Even though I'm in Connecticut and 1300 miles away, I'd be interested in helping if its needed.

Sorry Guys/Gals. I have to bow out of writing the proposal up for SSM.
Yesterday my mother went in to the hospital and things don't look good. I may have to fly up to Cape Cod to help handle things. In the meantime I have been constantly on the phone.
Someone has to take over the reins. Concentration is gone.

SSM, do you want to continue?Sorry to say at this time with Thanksgiving a Day or two away, people going out of town, family & friends coming in & considering we have only a week or so left too put a bid in their isn't enough time to do the research and get all the information we need to put together a Really nice program for the member's here on MM.net. as we did in the past. I dont see how it would be possible.

Sorry to hear this about your mother, Tom. :( Will keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Was looking forward to a trip to Florida next year if MV11 was selected for that location. Might help if there was a "draft" package that could be handed off to SSM from the past 2-3 weeks effort. Without that as a start point, it will be very difficult to pull something together with less than 9 days to go. Another option might be to ask for a 2 week "extension" of the MV deadline due to unforeseen circumstances.

Obviously, being here in Florida, I'm all in. I'm a new member, but I'll help in any way I can and I'm really looking forward to it.
