Ok, so a friend of mine who used to be a mechanic tried replacing the power steering pump tonight. We ran into a snag - we seemed to have worked through it, but Im not convinced everything is correct.
The PS pump came with two o-rings - a white teflon one, that goes over the pressure line nut, and a smaller black one. We had no idea where that small black nut went, and it came with no indication. Pulling the line off the old pump, there was no indication that there was any o-ring in there either, but we werent paying attention and it could have fell out and we didnt notice.
My question is - where the HELL does this little black o-ring go? We ended up putting it on the end of the pressure hose, then putting it all into the PS pump. I just drove 40 miles home, and it SEEMS OK with no leaks and its operating fine, but I'm nervous we f'd something up.
