Has anyone made 400 hp at the motor in a N/A car? Without opening up the motor and just by installing bolt on mods. Headers, CAI, exhaust, tune etc. Using the 20% power loss from motor to the rear wheels you would need 320 rwhp if im correct. Has anyone accomplished these numbers???

You'll never get to 400 with bolt on mods unless one is forced induction.

You got that right!
+2
Maybe with a stroker motor, cams, some head work, etc; but not with bolt-ons.

Thats what i was thinking too but i was curious if anyone was able to do it. Im hoping to get to 300 rwhp soon. Im at 274 rwhp right now and i just bought some SW headers which will hopefully give me another 25 rwhp. Maybe i will add some underdrives and an intake spacer for a little extra hp. Onr day i will enter the world of boost and melt tires like DOOM!!! lol

You'd be lucky to get 300 or slightly more with bolt on mods.....
Put the headers on and get the underdrives and take her in for a tune. If you do not have 4.11 gears get them also. You will smile with these mods!

Maybe add nitrous.......most bang for your buck!

Maybe add nitrous.......I made 387@the rear wheels with an 80 shot from Lidio with 410lbs of torque.Only problem was I had no extra cash for what sometimes happens with nitrous so I rarely used it.

Pops, I have 4.10's and a tune and wow what a difference that was over stock! A whole new car thats for sure. But i need more power!! Lol. Once the headers are installed i will be getting another dyno tune done and i will post the numbers, really want to hit 300 rwhp.
Scremn, nitrious scares me!! Dont wanna blow her up.
If you want to do the underdrives get them on before the tune. They will make the car wind up faster. Expect 13.70 to 13.90 ets out of her with this set up.

Just gotta use the nitrous with moderation.
It will put a big grin on your face but +1 on the cost to refill that bottle.
Again, the key word is "Moderation"!!!

If you lighten the car will that make any difference? probably negligible but if you take seats and stuff out
Each 100lb removed will improve ET approx .1, much depends on vehicle weight and engine HP...

Lightening won't increase the HP or torque.

Just save your money and Eaton swap it.

If you add the under drive and the SW headers you should be close. I had the same set up you have and I am at 292hp and 307 Torque at the rear wheels on a Dyno jet dyno. Hope this helps. I also had a CAI from Paul's high performance.

True but two identical cars besides weight the lighter car will be faster as it can do more with the same power.

Get a 3500 stall single disc converter then you can roast them at the light for sure.

Seems to me that the limit for the 4.6L DOHC N/A is about 302-306 RWHP. Timeslips bear this out. I think CRUZTAKER/Barry was in this range when he ran his 13.27 @ 103.21 in October 2004 (verified and witnessed). For some reason, he is no longer listed in the Timeslips section (neither N/A or S/C). He worked another 4-5 years to better that 13.27 time and never did. Finally, he went with forced induction in about 2008-2009.
Joe Walsh shows 325 RWHP on a 5.0L Big Bore with headers. His best was 12.919 @ 103.83.

At 4,000 lbs, to lighten this car by a couple hundred pounds will be good in a lot of aspects. It's not necessarily easy to do though, not unless you want to sacrifice some creature comforts, and sometimes even then it's not super easy.

Thanks for all the input guys, after i install the headers and under drives i will get her tuned and dyno for the final numbers. Then i will survive on crickets and rain water to save up for a supercharger asap. I hear crickets taste kinda nutty, its gonna be a long winter, smh lol

It's ver hard to make 400rw thru a manual trans, the auto makes it even more difficult. You don't want peak power anyway, what a Marauder needs is a broad powerband with a lotta tq.
A 324 will make 400 thru the auto and along with 380ft lbs.

^^^^^ Yup, getting that out of a NA 4.6L is going to be real tough.

I bought a 5.0 Big Bore package from a guy on the Mach1 forum, you posted up on the thread a few times. http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/showthread.php?t=124351
I know if I get over bore pistons that will bump me up a little more, my ideal goal is 327 ci if possible.

You'll need different rods, pistons and crank to get 327ci.

If I just went with what was in that package (no stroker, just bored), what would I need to raise the compression? Also doing the cobra intake cams and upgrading all the valvetrain.

The compression will have to be raised quite a bit for an n/a combo. With stock heads the CR will be 9:1 and with the heads cut .030" it will only be 9.7:1. It will have 304ci.

Yes, it will need new pistons. Using your pistons it will ahve a 9:1 CR with stock heads and with the heads cut .030" it will only go up to 9.7:1.

Manley or Diamond flat tops, they'll provide a 10.9CR with a .040" head gasket. You may be able to get a thicker gasket from Cometic or Titan and that will bring the CR down a bit. Valve notches will also reduce the CR.
