I'm sure some of you have done this mod. It must be quite a handling improvement at nearly 80 lbs weight shift front to rear.

Post pics of your setup and details of how you cleanly and in a waterproof manner routed cables and made the ground connection (without corrosion long-term).

^^^^^ :confused: What are you running for a battery? They usually run 40.0 - 45.0 lbs.

The guys that I know that have done a rear battery re-lo are guys with S/C installations, not aware of any that have done one for handling.

Same battery as everybody else. Shifting a 40 lb battery from front to rear is an 80 lb weight shift.

A 4200lb car with 55/45 weight distribution changes to 54/46 from trunking the battery alone. I have done it before on cars similar to the Marauder. It is a well-known hotrodding trick, and you can easily feel it from the driver's seat.

Try it, you'll like it. Don't know about the wife . . .

Okay, gotcha; net result due to relo.

Familiar with the technique, can't say I've ever felt that big a difference, though, in the cars I've driven/ridden in. If I was going to drag race the car frequently, might be a consideration; but for now, I need all the trunk space I can get...

If I recall the past conversations correctly, the Shermanator saved about 80 pounds up front in race trim by going with the 6" skinnies up front (saves 30 pounds per tire) and a heavy duty marine battery (saves about 20 pounds). The driver also cuts about 100 pounds off the typical MM driver. ;)

It won't be popular with the wife. I'm going to try for a slightly smaller battery. Too bad the CD changer is on the left, or I would pull it out and try and stuff the battery there. Ideal place to balance the car would be right rear in front of the axle. In the end it has to be a realistic mounting place.

Also, keep in mind if you ever plan on drag racing with a relocated battery, you need to have a battery/alternator shutoff switch on the exterior. That's definitely the most difficult part of the swap. A battery shutoff would be easy, but if it was ever engaged and the alternator was not shut off, the car would keep running and damage may occur to electronics.

Trying to figure out the details now starting with how much battery capacity would be reasonable, as that dictates physical size.

I am thinking of going with a smaller size than OEM, but quality "performance" battery. Possibly XS power D1200 (http://4xspower.com/shop/d-series/d1200/). At 33 lbs probably still a good 10 - 12 lbs less than that huge chunk under the hood. But still plenty of power to run accessories with the motor off, and crank the engine.

Fine strand welding cable #0 or #00 is the way to go. Mounting will have to fit the chosen battery size.

I wouldn't go too small on the battery cause of the long cable run up to the front. 58 series is good.
