Marauder Serves Up Humble Pie
I went to State Capitol Raceway tonite. I have been watching the weather for when it is below 80* and tonite was it.
I put my MT Drag Radials on and drove the Marauder an hour and a half to State Capitol Raceway for their Friday nite TNT & Trophy.
I parked across from Tech Inspection to give me the opportunity to eye ball the competition. Several groups came by and complimented the Marauder.
I went up the bleachers to get a good view of the track and to note where the finnish line is. I walked to the launch pad and looked down each lane to find the groove.
The time trials have started. I line up in the back of the staging lanes to let others prep the track. The weather call for high humidity as the Sun sets and I keep an eye on my roof. If dew forms on my roof it has formed on the track and I will watch and wait until the dew is gone. No dew on the roof so it’s a go.
The local late model Camaro Club has shown up and there are also several late model Challengers.
It’s been over a year since I have been to the track so I am familiarizing myself with the process.
It is 75* and the humidity is 80%.
I line up next to a late model Camaro with a tune, ram air and drag radials. The car in front of me in my lane gets a late start. The young cocky Camaro driver has already staged before my burn out has finished. In my haste to stage I drive past and have to back up. I focus on the third yellow.
The Camaro gets the start with a .097 R/T and is ahead by .114 vs my .211. By the 60’ we are even, by the 330’ mark I am ahead by .282 seconds, by the 1/8 mile I am ahead .445 seconds. He is now out of my field of view and that feels good!
I finish .4984 seconds ahead of young cocky Camaro!
I swing back around to the staging lanes and young cocky Camaro has no interest in talking to anyone other than Camaro owners.
This time I line up next to a late model Challenger. My reaction time is .146 to his .419. At the start I am ahead, by the 1/8 mile I am over 1 second ahead. I can’t even see him. I finish 1.9284 seconds ahead.
I park in the pitts and walk over to the staging lanes. Neither the Camaro or the Challenger drives will talk to me. But no matter several others compliment the Marauder.
I decide to call it a nite, fill the tires with air and drive home.
My first run was 12.070 @114.48 and my second run was 12.039@ 114.69. The beauty is she was raced in full trim, the way I drive her everyday plus Drag Radials.
I served up two healthy servings of Humble Pie, one to Mr. Cocky Camaro owner and one to Mr. A$$ Whopped Challenger.
Humble Pie recipe – 2003 Marauder, S/C, Headers, Stall, gears, Meth and a tune by Aric plus a Rusty Driver.;)
