Can anyone recommend the compounds and pads I need to remove scratches and everything in between get a show room finish? What order do I use them in?

Just so happens Autogeek is having a 3 day sale
http://www.autogeek.net/bupo.html
I would start with this:
http://www.autogeek.net/pc7424-low-profile-pad-kit.html
Then add this:
http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-intensive-polish.html
And this:http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-final-polish.html
Follow the instructional videos on their site, finish with your topcoat of choice and prepare to be amazed.
Don't finish with Black Box
My go to is always Zaino.
I experiment with different boutique stuff for topping off the Zaino but it is always the base of my shine.

I will not respond to "Grasshopper" (don't even try ).
That paint IS the bomb, though.

boatmang - my paint has the wonderful clearcoat cracking, and my go to's for years have been products much better than black box. However when I use any of them now, the wax seems to get down in the cracks and make all the cracks show up white. Does Zaino go on clear or white? Looking for something that is either dark or clear.

I just finished a polishing compound/Mequiar's Cleaner/Wax/TurtleWax liquid job on my 30+ year old paint job.
Considering the age, I'm pleased with the outcome.

Has anyone tried this out???Two parts..First,cutting pad with polishing compound, then a finishing pad with finishing polish or sealer or wax not sure which...The pads are microfiber...This system is designed for a DA polisher...Porter Cable or Mequires....Look on utube for details...

Yes, Zaino is clear
But if your clear coat is cracked and you already have white residue in the cracks it will just seal it in.

Not a fan.
I got to use it at the last Autogeek Detailfest I attended.
I found that
A: to aggressive early
B: loads up too quickly
Give me Lake Country pads any day.
I use 3-4 different grades of pads on average.
Orange, heavy cut
Yellow, medium cut
White, light cut
Black, no cut.
I just bought a new/ used '12 F150 with some battle scars. It is painted what is called "Candy Red" it looks like DTR to me.
I am planning on doing a paint correction on it soon.
I thought about maybe doing some photo- video step by step during the process.
Any interest?

Well, Spielberg I aint...
Started taking video yesterday.
So far shot clay bar procedure and taping off.
Then I got started with the polisher and found out the Clear Coat on my new F150 is WAAAY harder than on our cars.
Once I figure out what products I will be using i'll get a video of procedure.

I have been using the 3M products and have been pleased with the results. I use the porter cable unit with at least 3 different grade pads. My DTR was acid etched so bad it took me 5 days to get it polished to an acceptable shine. I just spent 8 hours getting the etching off the glass.

What kind of paint thickness gauge do you use?
