This past weekend we installed Ford Racing 4.10's, carbon posi rebuid, and all new bearings (Ford Racing master instal kit), and a Lidio tune (sct).
First of all, if you are going to do this, have the right tools and a person who instals gear for a living or more than once in a while there to help. I have a good fried that came down to the shop and helped with the gear set up. I can do it myself, but this is what he does 8 hours a day, for the last 18 years of his life. He is very good at what he does.
The Ford parts are a perfect match, no issues with side bearing preload, no huge amount of shims needed. Def worth replacing everything with OEM parts, do it one time, its not that expensive and well worth the NO hassle instal.
Lidio's tune is a plug and play, no issues there at all. Plug the scanner in, tell it to remove the stocker, tell it 91 or 93 octane, hit load and your done!
Our break in was a little more intense than others but I trust my guy and his recommendations. By the way, this is the exact break in that I have done on all of my rear gear swaps...it works so I ALWAYS do it. First drive, 20 miles on the highway. 10 miles out and ten miles back. No hard pulls, no launches, one nice steady pull from 55mph to around 90. Let it coast back down to 70 and head home. One time, on the return trip I manually shifted the car at 3500-3700...4 200lb guys...chirp! We all giggled at the same time!
The hard part was putting the car away until the next day. Let the gears cool completely off. The next day is 50 miles of all driving conditions. Hop on the highway and run out about 25 miles, on ramps, off ramps, pulling decently hard to 80 or so. One time backed her down to 55, stood on it to about 125...very nice pull. Hop off of the highway, onto one of our main busy roads. Lots of red lights, nice medium pulls at about every light. No wide open pulls, just nice loaded runs to about 45 - 50 in 3rd gear (o.d.off) so it can load the gears on both sides. At about 35 miles we stopped at an antique store for a couple of hours (big store and I had to do some negotiating) then back home on the highway.
At 63 miles for the day I was turning left off of the highway on a nice long straight stretch...manual 1st gear, turn the corner, swat the throttle and push the shifter at about 6 grand, at 6250 she hit HARD! Nice 20 mph gain on the speedo and then it dropped back...yeah about 3-6 feet of scratch in second! Pulled her hard to 6500 in 2nd and shut her down (caught traffic)...MMMM, nice! Its about time this thing run like that!
5 miles of being behind someone, turn right onto a perfect 3/4 flat straight...stop dead, low 1 again, light brake, swat the throttle and I hear WARREEEEEEEEEEEEE and she takes a dip to the left about 3 feet...6500 hits second and I let her walk out...hooks hard and takes off. I push her into 3rd at 6500 again and she's pulling like DOOM headed for a barbeque! Push the O.D. button at about 120 and the O.D. shift is impressive to say the least!
I got home and the wife wanted to go for a ride, we went down the street and turned around, nice burn out and stop. Back up so I can get the tires in the freshly cleaned area of the street, launch it hard, blow the tires off, lift and get it hooked, swat it again and let her eat. This time I let the car do the shifting, extremely nice sound 1st to 2nd, 2nd to third is very firm. Push the button into O.D. and Mer says "holy &^%t!!!! Thats awesome! Well worth the money!" You know you've got a keeper when she gets excited about going fast!
Needless to say I am very happy with these mods. Bang for the buck, you can't go wrong. If they had produced this car like this, there would be a ton of Fox body guys really pissed off on Friday and Saturday nights! I am taking the car over to our local Lincoln (used to be Mercury) dealer at lunch today and letting the guys take her out. I'll shoot ya their impressions after work. If you have been on the fence about gears and a tune...LEAP! You won't regret it at all!:burnout::burn:
Thanks to Lidio (Alternative Auto Performance), and Sparta Performance for the great deals on my parts.

Good Job now that they are broken in you should change the gear oil from Dino to Synthetic. Someday I'll get 4.10s...

The comments in your first post were spot on, if the cars had come with 4.10s and tuned from the factory, they would have sold a ton more of 'em.
Enjoy the gears and tune, Chris thy ae definately a great start; but you may as well start socking away some more cash, that Mod Bug ain't done with you yet.... ;)

I can only imagine what having a blower would be like....January save up for new tires, February put an extra set in storage, March save up gas money, April pull her out of storage and destroy the first set of tires, end of April head to Louisville and destroy second set of tires, May save up for new tires, June head to our local dragstrip and destroy the trans, July save up for trans rebuild, Aug head to MVXI and destroy May's tires, Sept have the MM towed back to the shop due to rods hanging out of the bottom from street racing, Oct save $$$ for new engine build, November still saving for new engine...DEC instal new engine and head to Lidios for custom tuning...January...do it all over again!!!!

Well, I guess I'm going to hafta install the FRPP 4.10 come springtime that came with my whole Vortech package I bought from a member that sold his car and never installed any of it. The rest of it is now installed. I have the new FRPP ring and pinion just need the master kit etc. and a place to have it done. I believe Martyo said Jeff at his shop can translate my Vortech tune with 3.55 to a tune with 4.10 without a re-dyno.
Wonder if he still drives the impala??? :hmmm:

 LOL, whats good for one is good for the other...I have a little plan for the Imp this winter....Can you say 383??? I do wonder though, if the MM had 3.55 and it runs like this with 4.10....what about taking the Imp from 3.42 to 3.73? The Imp makes peak torque so low that 4.11 would be too much. I drove the MM today, last day this year. The Imp stays on the road till we salt, then she sleeps.

I actually drove them back to back last night...yes, the Imp now needs a little help. When I was driving home last night, my buddy was driving the Imp ad I was driving the MM, both cars look awesome together on the Highway, he passed me so I could look at the MM in the reflection of the Imp, and I passed him so he could see the opposite...I love them both. :lovies2:

If you're installing the axle repair kit (3W1Z-4A109-AA) along with changing the ring and pinion gears, then M-4210-B2 would be appropriate. Otherwise you get duplicate axle bearings and seals.
