View Full Version : 2 mild concerns and 1 talking point...

First off, I love my MM. I got it at a more than fair price with low mileage and in great condition. However there are 2 very mild concerns I have...

1. When I have the air on (air, a/c, or heat), it is common for it to make a weird noise after I turn off the car. As soon as I turn off the ignition there is this hissing that grows in volume, peaks, and dies out (all of which only lasting 2-3 seconds). I was wondering if anyone had had this issue before? It's barely even a mild nuisance at worst, but I was just wondering if it was something simple.

2. Occaisionally my power steering will go out. Now I don't think it is the power steering, I think it is the speed sensitive steering that makes it harder to turn at higher speeds, but on occasion it will act like I'm at a high speed (i.e really hard to turn the wheel) when I'm just turning on the car or going at slow speeds. Again, it's really not a big deal, but just wondering if it is common. I found that if I get it up to speed, a lot of times it will go back to normal.

Also, how does everyone feel about their MPG? I generally accept it as an acceptable sacrifice to having such a cool car, and when I can I'll fill it with 93 octane, but I was wondering if anyone else has anything they do to improve it any.

1. Where does this sound come from, behind the dash or the front of the car?

2. How many miles on the car? It could be the u-joint in the steering shaft...that's quite common.

Fuel economy is highly variable, depending on such factors as fuel quality (winter blend), tire inflation, state of tune, and the most highly variable of all, the driver. Do you drive like there's an egg between your foot and the accelerator pedal, or do you go balls-to-the-wall every time?

Not familiar with either of your concerns, but I don't worry about MPG too much.

I'm pretty modified and get between 16-20 in the city (depending on how spirited my driving is) and I get about 24 on the highway.

By comparison, my 5.0 mustang goes between 20-23 city and 28-30 highway no mods

So I see the Marauder as comparable and a small price to pay to not be driving a hybrid

what you are hearing is the a/c system balancing out so to say mine does it as well just the high side balancing out with the low side as the compressor is no longer running . not sure about the steering though sorry.

I had a similar issue with my steering. Sprayed a little WD-40 on the steering shaft U-Joints and it went away.

It's coming from buy the oil and volt gauges, but like I said, never worried me much.

And I'll look into that U Joint. It has 69,xxx miles Thanks

That noise is most likely the vacuum motors... nothing to worry about.

Mine makes the noises too, just the vac motors under the dash returning due to the engine being off (no vacuum supply)

As for mileage, well if you get more than 21 or so on the highway your doing great. Its a performance car and it is what it is. I have this concern when I first got mine as well but its not my DD so I am not so concerned about it.

+1

I averaged around 18 all-around driving, and got 22 -23 consistently on the highway when I first got the car. The tune and 4.10 gears dropped that about 1 mpg, and the blower's had an impact as well.

I can still get 21 plus a touch on the highway with the Eaton, but can get that to go south in a hurry if I get a bit "undisciplined" with the right foot... :burn:
